I have a 6.5 mo old son who is rolling over onto his tummy at night. I have tried to put a wedge thing in there but he is rolling over it. What do you do? Is it ok? Thanks!

What can I do next?

once they can roll themselves it is ok , it's just newborns that need to sleep on their backs.

I hate sleeping in one postion all night. Sometimes I just need to roll over. Baby is no different. Once he can roll over and get comfortable, let him go. Keep the cushy stuff out of the crib, but he no longer has to sleep on his back.

I think the issue of babies not sleeping on their tummies ends when they can hold their heads up, turn head from side to side etc. The danger is that they will be face down and suffocate. No puffy pillows or blankets which can add difficulty to getting their breath. If she can move her head from side to side, pick up her head etc., I think it's fine. I still wouldn't use pillows of super cushy blankets or quilts though.

It should be ok. Babies naturally like to sleep on their tummies. My son has slept on his pretty much since birth. That was the only way he would sleep as a newborn.

We asked our pediatrician the same thing with our daughter because we were always finding her on her stomach.

He said that as long as she can roll herself back over, there's nothing to worry about. I'm guessing at 6.5 months, she has those capabilities.

My pediatrician said if they can roll over to their tummy but not back to their back put them back on their back. As soon as he can roll back over to his back on his own you can leave him.

If he can roll himself back, don't sweat it. Let him sleep whatever way is comfortable. If it makes you feel better, the risk of SIDS goes way down at 6 months too.
