when the books/doctors/whoever, talk/ask about your baby being able to roll over do they only mean from laying on their back to rolling on their front?? .. my cousin sent me a video a few weeks ago saying her son finally rolled over (hes 10weeks older than my daughter) and in the video they lay him on his back and put a toy a few feet away and he rolls onto his belly to get the toy... this morning i had my daughter laying on her belly and she rolled herself over on her back.. she did it a few times actually. but when shes on her back she struggles to roll over .. shes definatley trying, its like her bottom half rolls over but she cant seem to get her top half to go with it.. im nto concerned or anything shes only just 2 months .. what im asking is like when people say o can she roll over yet do they always mean from back to belly??

What can I do next?

They could mean either one. Typically babies will roll from belly to back first because its easier to do (and because they hate tummy time, LOL). Rolling from back to belly takes more strength and coordination to do, and usually happens a month or two AFTER they can go from belly to back.
A 2 month old might be able to do belly to back, but probably wont be able to do back to belly until 3 or 4 months.

Roll over I think just means either back to belly or belly to back. My son was 2 months old when he went from his belly to his back, like the previous poster said because he didn't like tummy time. It took months to go the other way. He would go half way, sometimes almost the whole way then change his mind. He was like almost 8 months old, sitting independantly, turning around on his tush and reaching before he finally rolled the other way!

Babies all roll over at different ages. This is not something I ever worry about. I had one that couldn't go from back to tummy until he was almost a year old. We called him 'turtle boy' cause that is what he would look like. Then one day he did it and never looked back.

Babies *usually* go from back to belly first, around the beginning of 4 months old. They usually start to roll from belly to the back around 5-6 months. I think to answer your other question, most people forget which is supposed to come first or when a typical milestone is, I think they mostly just mean is she able to roll yet.

My son rolled from back to belly when he was 2 and 1/2 months old. He had (and still has) a hatred of laying on his back. He is 2 years old now and a stomach sleeper. I never really watched for when he went the other way. I guess I always just thought "rolling over" was rolling over, so either direction.

Usually the milestone is from back to belly because it's pretty easy for them to get from belly to back. Frustration is the name of the game; give her lots of floor time and let her struggle with trying to roll over. It's going to be a time when she's been trying and she's getting frustrated that she'll actually accomplish the roll!

Rolling over can be from back to belly or belly to back. Think of rolling over in the literal sense. They will continue to work on the skill until they can do it both directions.
