I remember seeing someone recommend a Roku player--is this very similar to cable? Seems like it would be a LOT cheaper!

Does anyone have it?
Can you watch series shows like A&E, TLC, etc? Tell me about Roku!
Thanks!

We have Roku and Hulu. Roku is basically a receiver and you can choose from hundreds of streaming channels. You can have free channels and pay channels. Some of the free channels have older TV shows and movies, some have news programming, music, etc. The only pay channel we have is Hulu. On Hulu we watch the more contemporary TV shows. You can check on Hulu.com to see if your favorite shows are available on Hulu. You can also have Netflix through Roku but we don't have that right now. The Roku receiver cost I think around 80 bux and we pay $7.99/month for our Hulu subscription. We bought Roku so that we can watch Hulu on our TV instead of the computer. In order to watch Hulu with Roku you need a subscription for Hulu. Free Hulu only works on the computer.

Right now we have basic, basic cable for $21.00 and Hulu for $8.00 and that's enough TV for us. But we don't watch any Sports. I've heard that a lot of sports programming is only available through cable. Depending on how much your family is into sports, this may be a deal breaker.

We are very happy with this setup.

I am doing precisely the same research right now as Mamaofthreewee since I also had never heard of this before. We're already paying for Hulu & Netflix....this is something to think about for sure

We have Roku and Netflix and cable.. so yes, we can see lots TV shows, but no A&E yet on Roku. I do not recall TLC either on Roku..

Remember not all movies are available on streaming.. Also some of the channels Roku has are older shows.. Not always the current shows..

We use it as a 3rd option.. It is getting better all of the time as more channels join..

If you have favorites that you really want, be sure to research it.

I have it - you can get Netflix and you can get Hulu on it. Probably Blockbuster too if you use that to stream movies. I am not sure what shows are on hulu cause I haven't tried it yet. There is also something called Crackle that has a bunch of different movies. I don't get the series shows on A & E or TLC - but if they are available on hulu then you could watch them that way.

Overall, I like the ROKU and it is definately cheaper than having cable!

I found this...http://www.roku.com/roku-channel-store.

It looks like it will tell you what channels you get....I am thinking you get them all since Hulu is something you can view just about everything on...I think.

I am sorta intrigued by this.

Our Comcast package just expired and when we got our first REAL bill it was almost 150 bones.....Yikes

We just use our xBox360 for our older TV (most of the new ones link to netflix and computer streaming sites)... which has netflix and hulu or hulu+ (and zune), or just plug the laptop into the port and everything on the laptop comes through the TV.

We have a Roku box in our bedroom. I use it to access Netflix and Hulu etc. We don't have it on our downstairs TV we access Netflix etc. through our xbox. I like the Roku remote much better than the xbox but other than that I am not sure why we have it. Good question! I will ask my husband.

We have Roku and are very happy. If you have a Wii or something like that, you may want to checkout what they offer and see if it is just as good as roku. Don't have much to add, but something to think about is that, depending on how much TV you watch or what channels, you may be able to get rid of cable altogether with Roku, Netflix (for movies and past seasons of TV shows), and Hulu plus (for shows currently on). It's so much better b/c you can watch what you want, when you want.
