On Saturday I will be going from the Annapolis area to New Jersey. I have directions sending me both 95 and 301 to get into Delaware and then the directions are the same from Delaware to New Jersey. According to Google, they both take about the same amount of time, but I'm worried about traffic with a 2 1/2 year old and an almost 3 year old in the car. I'm used to going from DC to New Jersey and taking 95 and I know it's not that bad, but from Annapolis 301 is easier to get to. What I need to know is what route is better on a Saturday during beach travel? Also, I'm going from Rockville to the Annapolis area first. Should I take 95 or Route 50? If I remember Route 50 can be bad with beach traffic on a Saturday morning and I plan on going around 9 am. Thanks for all your help.

What can I do next?

Traveling TO Annapolis on a Saturday AM? hit the road at 0700....you are going WITH the beach traffic, not against it....why would you want to go across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge if you don't have to?

I'd hop on the 95N and go with it...I think you are asking for trouble to go across the bridge...that's my 2 cents.

Safe travels!!!

I wouldn't go NEAR 301 or 50 on a Saturday morning unless you are leaving at 5 a.m. Stick with 95... there are also plenty of nice rest stops on 95 -- there aren't as many places to stop quickly and easily on 50 and 301.

Having lived most of my life in the Annapolis area I will give the following advice...Rt. 50 and Rt. 301 anywhere near Annapolis on a Saturday during the summer is usually backed up and full of traffic. The "Beach Traffic" can usually be avoided by going EARLY (7am or earlier) in the morning. Sometimes it backs up for MILES. I would either go super early or avoid 50/301 by using 95N. You can check out http://www.portaltomaryland.com/Maryland%20Web%20Cams.htm and look at the cams near the Bay Bridge to help you decide which way to go. Hope this helps!

What a nightmare 95 is; you'll hit traffic that way as well (I know, I've sat in it). I'm a native New Jerseyan. One year we drove to Williamsburg, VA and decided to take the scenic route which is longer mileage-wise but much more enjoyable. I don't know much about the best route between Rockville/Annapolis, but from Annapolis to NJ you could definitely go through the Delmarva Peninsula to Lewes, DE and take the Cape May Ferry into NJ (although I think that takes you onto 50 and does head east towards DE beaches).
