Hi there. I haven't been on in awhile so hi everyone!! lol. Ok, down to business.
My son is now 2 1/2. He has been ripping up his books, movies, and well, pretty much anything he can. I have tried numerous ways of breaking this habit. Amoung the things I've tried is time-outs, corner, and taking away his things (yes, he's spoiled!). I'm not sure what else to do except maybe rip my own hair out. He's costing me a lot of money. Just tonight he ripped up a movie case to Blue's Clues that was a rented movie. What should I do? Please help! I welcome all suggestions. Thank you all! Best Wishes, T.

What can I do next?

You might try this. Have some old newspapers ready and say "We don't rip books (etc), but we can rip newspapers that mom & dad are done reading." and let him rip away. Keep the "rippable" papers in a basket and let him know that's where he can rip. Make sure you keep the papers you're still reading far away...

NO advice here. Both of my boys started ripping books when they were about 1year so we only had thick pages for books. My 1 & 1/2 year old is almost at the point where he is stoping and my 3 year old doesn't do it at all anymore. We took away all the books they could rip until they were mature enough. They get to play with the cardboard page books all day long but at night, we read the Dr Suess and other books to them but they are put up on a shelf up high.

all you can do is move them to a safe place until he's a little older to understand what he's doing. only thing you can do. :) rechild proof your home. some kids are destructive and some aren't. :)

I am famous in my family for having done this when I was that age. My mother's solution was to move everything that was rippable to a high shelf until I got over that phase. (And I promise, I haven't done it in at least 30 years now! =)
