Here at our new house , big huge yard....ticks, sand.....all new things. My 4 yr old daughter has been digging in the sand and she has a terrible place forming on her head, all festered up and oozing and forming a goose egg. Its like super glue, it oozes and dries and is very nasty looking. It hurts her for me to even look at it. The place is as big as about 3 quarters put together next to each other. It has been there for about 2 weeks now and after applying creams and such....it just isnt healing. I have my vehicle back now and am going to try to get her in at a doctor, but am not sure if i should just go to a urgent care center. It doesnt itch, just is read and irritated and all bubbled up and scale y. The idea of ringworm is a place the size of a dime on her back and also a small place by her lip, both of these actually form a ring, the other does not, or it is too irritated to have a form. I have been very worried because she is too pain tolerant and most things dont hurt....but this cant even be looked at without her going into fits. I am just so worried

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Okay! we are going to the doctor, finally found one in our new area that can see her. We dont have an ER here.
well, doctor didnt act allarmed, said this was common in black children but not that much in white, but she is white. Gave us some antibiotics to take for 8 weeks. This is indeed a form of ringworm!

2 WEEKS?!!! My goodness, take that girl to the ER. She is in pain and this has gone on far too long. This is not something you can wait out. Go NOW.

No.... that is not ringworm. My kids and pets all got ringworm over the summer, it doesn't swell or ooze like that. Definitely take her to the Dr. Ringworm looks like a red circle, then the inside of the circle heals and it leaves the outer ring. It could even be a staph infection since it isn't healing, or an infected bug bite.

The other two could possibly be ringworm. Anti-fungal cream should clear it up, but it does take several weeks. If it ever gets in her hair, she needs prescription oral antibiotics because ringworm will not heal in the hair shaft with just anti-fungal cream.

Ringworm can vary in size (they get bigger if left untreated). The spots on her back and lip sound like ringworm, but the lump on her head does not. Any cream for athletes foot will get rid of ringworm, it’s a fungus. I would have her head checked ASAP as that sounds like something else.

Ringworm is a perfect circle, about the size of a pencil eraser.

This doesn't sound like ringworm.

If it looks anything remotely like a bullseye, you take her STRAIGHT to the ER, immediately, as that is lyme disease (from a tick).

Either way, I'd take her in, anything that hurts like that could be really serious. Spider bites or fire ant bites are nothing to play with either.

H. she feels better soon, poor thing!

Ring can vary largely in appearence. From large and scaly to nice perfect circles and may inbetweens. Different area's of the body often have different looking symptoms. But they can be any number of things, from ringworm, to infected bites, staph just to name a few. Once you know what you are dealing with you can decide how to best to deal with her new space. Sand is notarius for being a toilet bowl of nasties.

Make sure her nails are kept clean and short and filed. Have her wash really realy well after exposure to the outdoors. Start teaching her that shouldn't itch or touch her body with her hands until after she is cleaned well.
