LO is 9 months old and we have just noticed a small ridge going from the front of his soft spot to the very top of his forehead..his head is perfectly round and you can feel his soft spot..barely but when I run my hand over it you can feel the dip in the skull..I am worried to death...I am calling his pedi. Monday, but they check his head size every appointment and said he is growing as should be and he is healthy never been sick except the occasional fever during teething or after shots. The ridge is not raised alot but if you run your hand over it you can feel it quite well but if you are just looking you can't see it. He has alot of hair so his soft spot was hard to feel until I moved his hair out of the way. Anyone ever experienced this and had it be normal? I have looked up about the soft spot fusing together to early but his head is perfectly round and and it is just right for his size..any help would be great thanks!

So What Happened?

I called the doctor and he said that it was completely normal, that it was just the bones fusing together and that it would eventually go away and that as long as he still has his soft spot(which he does) that it was nothing to worry with!

Thanks everyone for the help, it was really reassuring..I will try if I have a question..not look it up on the internet..there are some crazy and very rare things out there..that would scare anyone to death! LOL..

The 'fontanel' (soft spot) goes like a 'T', I believe; and every baby is a little different in how it closes up. You could probably even call a hospital and ask to talk to a nurse in OB or Pediatrics and ask what formations are normal in babies, THEN explain your concern if her answer doesn't include a description of what your baby's experiencing.

I'll bet you a dollar it is nothing but if it were me, I'd take him in for some peace of mind. :) I did a quick search and did see some stuff out there on the web about premature fusing but the symptoms of that don't really match up to yours, imo. (and I'd advise you not to do too many searches about it because some of the wild stuff out there will scare a poor mommy to death needlessly! ha) Good luck to ya!

it could be from his crib rails if his crib has any bumps on it.. i know my little girl used to get them alot from laying up against her crib side

I would check with the pedi but I think it is normal. Their skull does some moving throughout the whole first year. Good luck!!
