Now that summer is here the flys' are crazy! Last year I found something that worked really great but smelled horiiably bad. I'm really wanting to see if there are some home remedies that will be cheaper but work just as well as store bought. I have heared something about water in a bag with certain marbles but I'm unsure of all the details to it and also if it will work. This is for outside and I have lots of plces to hang things if needed. We are always in and out of the house so I would like something I could put by the door without having the horriable smell. Thanks in advance for all the help!

What can I do next?

I have just heard of the water in a ziplock bag, no special marbles. The sun reflects on the water and it scares the flies away. My friend hangs one right outside his patio door, we are going to try to the same thing. Good Luck and happy fly hunting! =)

Good morning!
We battle the same thing every year....my kids raise show animals - cattle, goats, etc. There are tons of things you can purchase that either trap the flies...but they DO tend to stink after a while...(yuck!) The best thing I have found is a product called QuikStrike - you can purchase it at Tractor Supply and I believe some of the feed stores may carry it as well. It is a plastic enclosed "stick" that attracts the flies...lasts for a pretty good while. I put one near my back door in a window sill and it works great. The only downside is the cost @ $19.99, but if you are having a fly problem its well worth it, especially since it lasts a while. Either way you go - the best place to purchase these type things are at the feed stores or TS since they do carry commercial-type goods. Home remedies - I wish I had one! :-)

Little tip...if you use fly paper make sure you put one on the paper before leaving it to do its work. They will usually avoid it unless there is one stuck to it already. Misery loves company, I guess :)

Water in Ziploc bags. I see the Mexican restaurant Los Cucos does this too and I asked them why. For the flies..........they have it outside in their seating and playground area.

yes, there is something you can do that works. I haven't ever heard of marbles in water but I have experienced pennies in water. Take small Zip lock bags and fill them with water and put several pennies in the bottom. hang them wherever the is an insect problem. The intruder sees the bag as a bigger insect and will not come close. The water gives off prisms and the copper color emulates an insect. You can Google it and learn more about the idea. good luck.

Everyone has flies right now. I even spray raid around my front door because even though there is nothing there, if you open the door, they zoom right in and I can't stand it. All my neighbors are having problems with them. Its the season I guess.
My neighbor was telling me that her daughter tried a ziploc of water with a penny inside hanging above her door and it didnt make a darn bit of difference.
The only think I've found that works are those sticky, creepy no pest strips. Hang them in the center of the room and they get stuck to them. Citronella doesn't work and I have friends who use the stinky fly traps outside, but they don't work all that great either.
Everytime I see one still, I smash it. It's the only way I know to get rid of them without hurting my other pets or anything.

I hope you get some great responses!

Ziplock bags with water at the entrances - nothing special like pennies or marbles. It won't rid you of the 100% but it will keep them away. I do it every summer and several of my friends laughed at me at first but now do the same. Have no clue why they don't like it have heard lots of reasons but bottom line is I get about 3 flies vs 10 and the 3 I get with the fly-swatter.

Maybe you can discover what is attracting the flies in the first place.

Last summer, while visiting my parents, the flies were HORRIBLE> all over the windows and getting in the house. As soon as we left, so did the flies!!
It was the diapers, that were well wrapped in plastic bags and disposed of in the garbage cans outside that attracted them.

Could be your garbage outside. Good luck on the remedies!
