I'm RH negative but I didn't take a pill they gave me a shot. I beleive in the third trimester and then again after delivery. I haven't actually heard of the pill for RH negative mothers. I had NO side effects from the shot.
I was told by my doctor that I am RH negative. I know what it means and why I need to take the pill during my 3rd trimester.
What I was wondering is the possible side effects that other mothers have experienced while taking this medication.
I am currently working full-time and need to continue for as long as I can so I would like to be prepared as far as diet, exercise, etc.
So I went to my doctor's visit and got a prescription to go get the shot at the hospital.
I was confused by him saying that he was going to give me a prescription.
I was worried about any side effects due to working full time and that my job is NOT a desk job. He said not to worry... there should be no side effects.
Thanks to everyone.

Hey there.. I was reading ur add and Im RH Neg O Factor or something like that and I didnt have to take anything while i was pregnant.. All I took the whole time was my prenatals and fish oil vitamins... My daughter turned out just fine.. The only thing is they had to give me 2 shots in the hip.. So honestly unless theres more to the story I would get another opinion.. :D
I also have never heard of a pill. I am RH negative and I was given a shot a 28 weeks then when my daughter was born they tested her blood and she was neg. as well so I didnt need a follow up shot. this shot is only to keep you body from creating antibodies if any of the baby's blood enters yours due to seeing the pos. blood of the baby as a disease. if this happens and you have another baby that is rh pos. then the antibodies will enter the baby's body and attack it's blood steam.
also just so you know if you have your baby's daddy tested and if he is also rh neg. then you don't actually need a shot.because there is no way for the baby to be pos. you do not need to do any special exercises or diet for this and there usually is not any complications with your first baby. I hope this helps also here is a website that has more accurate info as well as other helpful things for pregnancy:
I have never heard of a pill for RH negative. I had to get a shot in the bum when I was 28 weeks and that was it. I was also told to keep a card in my wallet in case of a car crash or other accident that I lose a lot of blood, they will find the card then give me another shot so I will be able to have another baby if I want. What pill?
M.,
Just like the other mommys, I was RH negative and never was offered a pill. I too was given some shots and still have the card in my wallet (never threw it out). I would ask your doctor if you could get the shot. If your are anything like I was it was difficult enough with food and prenatal vitamins and all kinds of other stuff that I wouldn't throw in another type of pill that might upset your tummy or the baby's tummy.
Good luck!
Hi M.,
I am actually surprised to hear that you are taking a pill b/c you are RH negative. I am at the end of my third pregnancy, and am RH negative as well. I have NEVER had a doctor give me a pill. I have always been given a shot once I hit 28 weeks, and then another one before delivery. Unless they expect complications, there shouldn't be any reason for you to take a pill. Plus, any meds. you take can have side effects. I hope you get some other responses b/c I would also like to hear more about this pill. Maybe you could ask your doctor about the shot. I have never had any side effects with the shot. Take care during the rest of your pregnancy and enjoy!

Rh- simply means your red blood cells do not have a certain protein on their surface. Rh- is only an issue is during blood transfusions and pregnancy/postpartum. No diet or exercise changes are necessary aside from the typical recommendations during pregnancy. In pregnancy you have a 12 week window to have the shot (never heard of a pill) so most Rh- women receive the shot at about 28 weeks (because 40 minus 28 equals 12). You do not have to receive the shot exactly at 28 weeks (I had my last shot at nearly 32 weeks) and you do not need a second shot if the baby is also Rh-. You should have absolutely no complications aside from maybe a sore spot where they placed the shot. You will not need to miss any work as a direct result of being Rh-.
Not that I am going to offer anything new the other moms haven't already said, but I too am RH neg O and I never had to take a pill with any of my four pregnancies. I was given a shot at 28 weeks and another at the delivery. However, my husband told me that his mother took a pill with her three pergnancies as she has a neg blood type. (This was 40 years ago) My own doctor did mention at one time that there was a pill available but the he preferred not to prescribe it, that the shot was more convienent. I don't recall that he mentioned anything about possible side effects or not. But I would, were I you, error on the side of caution and request a second opinion. Sorry for the lack of better info! Take care, hun :)
Peace
I have too never heard of the pill. I too am RH neg and I had to take two shot one during and one after. I didnt have any side effects on the shots though. Sorry I wasnt much help. Talk to you later.
I was rh negative with both my children. The only side effects that i had was headaches for about 1 week after i got the pill. And stomachaches.
Hi my name is A. and I am RH negative blood type. I have never heard of taking a pill in the 3rd trimester. I have a daughter who is four and am 3 months pregnant. When I gave birth to my daughter they just gave me one shot.
I am RH negative, but I didn't take a pill. I got a shot when I was around 27 weeks pregnant, and another shot after my baby was born. I didn't have any side effects at all.
M.,
I'm not aware of any pill but I've had the RhoGam shot with each of my pregnancies. I haven't had any side effects from it at all.
I've gotten the shot multiple times. You should have one any time there is any chance of your blood mixing with the baby's blood. I had one after each miscarriage (total of 2), one with my first successful pregnancy around 26 weeks and then another after my son was born (he's 0+), and in my second successful pregnancy I had one around 12 weeks or so because I was bleeding off and on, then another around 26 weeks and then I didn't get one after my second son was born because he's Rh- too (O-).
