Rh Negative Concerns

I am 20 weeks pregnant and just had my 19 week ultrasound. We are having our 2nd baby girl and she looks great! However, I am battling worry/anxiety over the fact that I had to have the RhoGAM shot during my first trimester. I am Rh Negative and was spotting red blood for 3 1/2 weeks. They said I needed it and knowing that I had it with my first baby at 28 weeks and she's totally fine I didn't think too much about it at first. Then I started thinking that maybe it would be different since I received it during the 1st trimester. I did find out that RhoGAM no longer contains Thimerosal (mercury), which gave me some relief but I still can't rest easy about it. My doctor says it's safe, but I would like to hear from any moms who are Rh Negative and had the RhoGAM shot during their first trimester due to spotting/bleeding who have had healthy, smart babies with no signs of any problems. I'm hoping to ease my mind, so please no negative remarks or experiences!

What can I do next?

Thank you for all of the encouraging responses! You have no idea how many times I would read these when I started worrying and it really helped to ease my mind again. My sweet baby girl is now almost 4 months old and doing great :)

yep I did. with both my pregnancies. same thing, with the spotting and stuff. I was worried too. I got the RhoGAM shot 2-3 times during each pregnancy. Well my boys are now 4 1/2 and 2 1/2 and very smart and healthy normal little guys :)
hope that helps at least a little

I worried myself sick with my first when I had to get the shot in the first trimester, New mommy guilt. all three of my kids I had to have the shot because of bleeding in the beginning and all three of my kids are doing just fine!! :) Not having the shot can be devistating, getting it is really a wonderful sigh of relief if you really read and learn what could have happened. Enjoy your pregnancy.

Oh and all three of mine I had to have three total, 1st trimester, 28 weeks and then after delivery as all my little raskels are RH +

As everyone has said, it's fine.......it sounds like you don't trust your doctor tho and that's not good.........

I had the same issue way back and they didn't know if it would be a help or not, but after my first one, the second one was not a problem at all.....both are just fine and healthy......with today's technology, you'll be great.....

Congrats on a new little girl and take care.

RhoGAM is one of our medical success. If you don't get the shot and you become sensitized your baby can get very sick and even die. Sorry to be so blunt. You said you have been spotting, that can increase your chances of becoming sensitized if you don't get the RhoGAM. I see no down side to getting RhoGAM and lots of potential problems if you don't. I work in a NICU. We on rare occasion get a mother who did not get RhoGAM in her home country. It's terrible. We can prevent the complications with RhoGAM.

I had it with both of my pregnancies in the first trimester due to spotting as well. Both kids are happy and healthy.
