So What Happened?

I thank each and everyone of you for your input, we finally made the decision to get her in Allen Elementary, their API is good and it being a magnet school makes it more appealing. We just hope the best for our daughter and hopefully Allen will be the answer.
So again thank you, and I will let you know about our experience with the school.

Hi there- I grew up in Bonita & now live in CV- What are you reasons for not sending your daughter to public school? I'm also a 12 year veteran teacher w/ CV- One of my really good friends from college is a Kinder teacher at Allen & the secretary I used to work with is the secretary at Allen as well- I completely believe in the public school system- my son attends a public school in CV & I 100% believe our schools & teachers are wonderful- of course every now & again you might run in to a teacher that you may not agree with, but I feel that open communication with the teacher is vital.... I know the Kinder team at Allen- they are all very strong- My friend is Mrs. Cleator- she is an excellent teacher- she is loving, but firm & has high expectations for her students- The best thing for you to do when the office reopens soon- talk to Michelle (the secretary)- Do you have any neighbors you can talk to? I have a friend last year pulled her 2 boys out of public school in CV to send them to Bonita Country Day- went back to work Full time to pay for their tuition (she was a stay home before that)- Her boys are extremely gifted & test scores off the charts- she felt sending them to private school- she wouldn't have to supplement so much at home with extra academic activities & their academic needs would be better tended to there- but that was not the case- the teacher pretty much told her that she would need to supplement the curriculum at home- so with that- she has enrolled her boys back at their neighborhood public school where she was happy with the teachers & the curriculum- please don't hesitate to ask me anything else... good luck- whatever you decide I'm sure it will be the right decision for your daughter & your family!

Hi there! I'm glad you asked this question because I am thinking of sending my daughter to Allen for 1st grade. Her current preschool goes up to Kinder, so she'll be finishing there. It's funny because I went to St Michael's for elementary, so my husband and I were debating about public vs private school for our daughter. My husband went to public school. My daughter's preschool recommended Allen for my daughter since it is also a performing arts school. I've heard only good things about the school and that there are a lot of people trying to transfer their kids there that don't live in the area. Of course, I think we have priority because we live in Bonita. Best of luck with your decision, it's tough to find good schools!

Hi,
I don't know anything about Allen Elementary but highly recommend St. Michael Academy for private school. My son went to public school until the 6th grade when I was faced with putting him in Bell with 7,8,& 9 graders then we placed him in St. Michael, we are not Catholic but have been welcomed warmly & are so glad to be part of the community. Good luck,
Jennifer
