Hi all,
Have any of you had an experience with reunification therapy/consultation? If so, were you the custodial or noncustodial parent? Do you think that the process helped or hindered your child? Is there anything that you wish you would have known before agreeing to it? Anything else you think would be helpful to know?

TIA

My husband was the custodial parent, the process helped my stepdaughter, definitely didn't hinder her. It was required and was beneficial in determining she shouldn't go back to her mother. The therapist notes everything and reports to the court.

Before the state will return kids to either one or the other of their parents homes they want to make sure they family is ready and working better. The therapist will have the child's best interest in mind, not anyone else's. So if things come up that are not so great for the kids they will be reported to the workers in question.

It's good that it helps smooth over the transition the family goes through when the kids come home.

Ephie - I haven't been through it, but in my googling I found a site that pointed out that if court ordered, NOTHING is confidential. All of it gets reported back to the court, and potentially to both parents.

Just an FYI. (sorry if you already have this info)
