my husband is on wk 6 or 7 of insanity. He uses carnation instant breakfast mixed with milk. it gives more protien than regular chocolate milk and less sugars. You can get a box with 6-8 packets or a canister. the canister we've only found at walmart but then it is easy to mix to desired strength. I think it is in the breakfast aisle

I have to admit - I read the title and thought you were going through some crazy life stuff and needed a good, stiff martini. :) Now I understand that insanity is a workout program. When they make a workout program called "bliss", I'll get on board!

Obviously this is not my area of expertise, so I asked my husband, who is a marathon runner, and everything Ann said below is on the money.

If you're talking about a protein shake, check out the Advantage line.
It's part of the Atkins product family. The nice thing about these shakes/bars is that they are very low in sugar. Typically, smoothies and other protein shakes are loaded with it (9+g/serving).

Advantage shakes are only 1g, with 15g of protein.

You can get them at most supermarkets and/or Walgreens and CVS.

I've not done insanity, but I think most recommendations are that you should get protein within a half hour of any workout. Chocolate milk has been marketed for this (not sure why chocolate, would think white milk would be just as good; might have something to do with the sugars in the chocolate). Otherwise, Gatorade for sure has a "recovery" line, and you could eat something with protein.

I don't think it's necessary to spend lots of money on so-called specially formulated recovery drinks.

Kudos to you for doing the Insanity! I'm pretty sure I'd fall on the floor after 5 minutes. =)

I started the Insanity program but I didn't finish. I wound up taking a vacation and I got off track so I decided to not finish but do something else. Once the kids get back to school and we are on somewhat of a normal schedule I will go back and start over and finish.
The big thing with doing Insanity and any other of those types of programs is to take your measurements before you start. You won't really lose much weight but you will notice inches coming off and your clothes to start fitting better.
I didn't drink the recovery drink but I know it is important to eat after.
