Here's some ideas from the Mayo clinic:

They mention several non-medical and several medical treatment possibilities.
Help! Restless leg syndrome is driving me crazy at night! Does anyone else get this? What do you do for it? I hope to find a non-medical remedy. I know I can take Lyrica, but I really don't want to.
Thanks

Have you been tested for iron deficiency?
Nutrition could make a big difference for you. I work with supplements and use a book by a bio-chemist that is a bit like my bible. He says: "Eat a high-fiber diet with high B vitamin values, including fresh vegetables and fruits and whole grains. Daily aerobic exercise has proven to be helpful."
If interested in the supplement list email me.
drinking a glass of milk for some reason helps me!
HI L.,
The natural community will tell you Restless Leg is a buildup of toxicities in your body. Most people get it from pharmaceuticals but that is not always the case. Sometimes it's absorptions of preservatives andpesticides in foods, sometimes is simply breathing in spray deoderant....A cleanse and a good absorbable multivitamin should relieve you of it. This will probably take about 90 days if you do it right. I can recommend a good vitamin if you like.
God bless!

I get this too and it is a horrible feeling, especially when you are trying to sleep. This is going to sound crazy but I had a friend that mentioned to me once that their mother suffered from this really bad and what she did to combat it was put a bar of soap, like ivory or dove soap at the foot of the bed and that made it better. I have not personally tried this myself but she said that her mother swears by it. I know it sounds crazy but it could be worth a try.
Good Luck
I have several friends who had this very badly. They actually got rid of it nutritionally by adding balanced supplementation to their diets. It's never come back and they are thrilled to have a non-drug solution.
Ugh, I am so sorry. I get it too and my mom suffers from this so badly. Unfortunately from what she has told me, there are only two medications out there for it (I am not sure of the names) but the medications sound worse than the problem! They cause sleepiness which means she obviously cannot drive if she has taken a pill, but they also take a while to kick in, so it is a big balancing act of when to take the pill. They also tend cause the user a feeling of doom. Yuck! I would try to stay away from the medications too if you can.
Here is what has helped me: a regular sleep schedule, not going to bed late at all. (If I stay up late and watch a movie, my legs start twitching all over the place). Cutting out all refined sugar, flour and caffeine. I noticed when I did this I slept very soundly, and then when I added back in ANY sugar or even a cup of coffee in the morning, the RLS returned that night. I have heard that eating bananas helps and also heard an old wives tale of putting a bar of soap in your sheets at the foot of the bed, I cannot vouch for either of those last 2 suggestions. I would suggest working on diet and sleep schedule and see if it helps. Good luck!
My mom has this. She puts a bar of soap under her sheet. Google it. I don't know which brand she uses or where exactly on your leg it needs to sit, but she does it and says it helps, plus I saw Dr Oz say the same thing - to use the bar of soap.
