I'm not sure how many you're inviting and what their ages are. If it's just other little ones, maybe chick fil e? or maybe try an activity based place with pizza - like Gymboree or Little Gym, etc.

If you'll have lots of young kids attending, then I would suggest something simple, private, and age-appropriate like My Gym where they can roam free and be loud.
If it's mostly adults (your friends) and she's the star to pass around, etc, then you have more options.
I agree with one of the other responders that small and intimate is easier with younger children. At 1, I found that with my kids, they just wanted to have fun with their friends but they don't really know the significance of the event in the way that us moms do. My priority was to just make sure my kid wanted to eat the cake! So, skip the gift opening at the party and other formalities.

It doesn't mean you shouldn't celebrate because it's a wonderful time esp since you'll be very nostalgic about the delivery (it's the 1st anniversary of you being a mom!) but just keep it in perspective.

Hi N.:
Happy First Birthday to your darlin baby, I'm quite sure, that this celebration, has appeared to come quickly for you.As a first time mom, I'm sure you've heard the phrase over and again "Enjoy them now" "They grow so fast" Now you know, what they meant. You think that was quick.....wait till you see how the next four fly by!!! lol. Don't get to busy,or turn your back to long, cause before you know it, your attending their wedding.I realize this is an exciting milestone. Its after all your first baby, and I'm sure we all can remember how thrilled we were to see our babies reach that first b/d. I know, that this is your babys special day, but because she won't remember A thing about it, and ultimately, the Adults will share most of the fun,and fond memories at this party, its best to pick a place where they will enjoy themselves.Personally,I'd make it a smaller gathering,at my home,so the baby feels more comfortable, and when she gets tired and bored from opening gifts, smiling for cameras, being passed around the room by adoring relatives, and begins to tire of all the excitement, at least she can sleep in the comfort of her own bed. I'm not trying to put a damper on your excitement,I'm just telling you from experience, that out of compassion for the baby,I'd make it less drama, and simpler, untill shes old enough to really enjoy the moments, and remember what a wonderful time she had. I wish you and your soon to be (one year old) the best.
