Strange scenario here. I was visiting my grandmother in east texas and her neighbor brought over a yorkie that they had found on shore. They thought he was dead and when they went up to him to actually see what the ball of fur was he started yelping. They were going to take him to the vet and get him put to sleep, but I told them I would take him. I gave him a bath (actually 4 to be axact with all the mud he had on him) trimmed the burs out of his hair and eyes, and trimmed his nails. I even blew him dry. He wimpered and yelped but pretty much just let me do what I needed to do. I have had him for about three weeks now. He is a very old dog. He needs alot of attention and I am not sure I can give that to him. I have searched and searched for a vet that will treat him and then find him a home, but no luck and I know I cannot afford the vet care he needs. He cannot see and I am not sure he can even hear that well. I haven't found a rescue group that will take him. Do any of you guys know of a rescue group or something. The ones I have got in contact with say they do not have room for him. I will even foster him if they can just pay for the vet bills. Till they can find a suitable owner. I honestly don't think he has very much longer left to live, but I do believe he needs a loving home to spend his last days. I named him Moses because Moses had to part the red sea with the help of God and I believe the waters had to part for this little guy to get to land to survive I don't know how such a sweet dog ended up in a lake having to fight for his life to get to shore but he deserves a nice home for the remainder of his life. If you know of anyone that can help me please let me know. I am not just going to give him to just anyone and I am not going to just drop him off at a shelter, I don't want him to be put to sleep because I don't believe he is in that type of shape, I want to find him a home that will care for him way better than I do and I take better care of my animals than I do myself sometimes. If you can help just let me know! Thanks!

So What Happened?

Well, I got in touch with a rescue service and I took him to the vet today as his health was getting worse. Poor Moses had to be put to sleep, he had some neurological problems and his kidneys were going down hill. Thanks for all the responses. I will have to say though, I thought some vet offices would have a little compassion and want to help a little dog in need. I am sad to say that the vets that I came in contact with are no better than all the other greedy docs. All they want is the money and they don't really care about the actual animal.

A simular situation happened to another lady. PetSmart
allowed her to bring the dog (caged) to explain her situation
(also rescue) and give the customers an opportunity to give
her donations to help out on the vet bills and medications.
Also, "some" vets are willing to discount their services.
Your local TV station or radio station or newspaper might even feature your cause that would lead to some help. My daughter rescued a dog over 2 yrs. ago. Deaf, bad eyesight, hernia, rotted teeth, very bad shape. She's spent $7000 so far. Since you feel that God rescued this little dog, maybe he chose you to take care of it for the rest of it's short life and will give you the resourses you need. Our daughter was 23, just getting started with her career, but all of a sudden, her sales went up, she started getting bonuses and she's been able to pay the bills. She feels God led her to "Trinity", named after the Trinity Bapt. Church parking lot she found her in. She was traumatized, full of stickers and sticks, hair matted. It took 3 hrs. for her and a friend to shear her, bath and dry. She still has serious health problems, and not long to live, but she's treated like a queen. This little dog could be a blessing to your life. I hope all the feedback you get will allow you to keep your little miracle.

Please, check with these Dallas Area rescues from Petfinder.com. I don't know how many of them you have already contacted, but I hope there's one that can help him.

I do know who will possibly take him..get in contact with her please email me offline @ ____@____.com. I will send you the information that could help. I do rescue and foster, but at this time I'm full. That's the major problem with most of us. I do not ask anyone for money to help, but even though vets know we are a rescue we don't get that big of a break. Until I can sell the dachsie pups that I breed to fund the babies that I take in, I am strapped at this point.

Have you thought about contacting the Television station closest to where you found the dog.
That is a very interesting human interest story and it might find the owners which I am sure are going crazy with sorry about the uncertainty of their pet. Anyway it is worth a try and if the owners are not found then someone will come forward to take the animal as a pet.

God bless you--you brought tears to my eyes. You will be so blessed by giving comfort to this little bit of God's creation. Try this website I found--they're a Yorkie rescue group & perhaps they can help you become an official foster until this little one can pass to the Rainbow Bridge.

Furry Friends is a great adoption place, (i got my dog from them). You may even try to call the city and see if they have free vet care or know anyone that does have it. I know in Arlington a feed store does discount shots, so they have a vet that will work for free or cheap. Sorry I can't give you an exact answer. I hope you do find someone to help, poor Moses needs it!

I hope you find a loving home for him, even if its not with you. I'm sure right now he needs lots of love and I'm sure you can give him all the love he needs.

This website lists rescue associations in TX. Look for the one closest to you that accepts small dogs or all dogs. I didn't see one for just Yorkies.
Best of luck to you both in locating a good place.

Hi A.,

I want to first thank you for taking in this sweet dog. It sounds like you were his light at the end of the tunnel.

I can't help you out with taking him but thought I would pass along some information and maybe it would help. We've got an excellent vet in Crowley and maybe they might be able to help you out. I don't know but it wouldn't hurt to look into it. They are very loving and caring people and are very helpful. It's called Wags and Whiskers and their number is ###-###-#### Their address is 113 S. Crowley Rd, in Crowley. Their website is www.wags-and-whiskers.com

ALSO would you mind me posting this on my homeschool group. I know there are dog lovers on there that might just be interested. Let me know and I'll do what I can to help you and Moses.

Dear A., I am so proud of you for taking care of Moses and I am sure you will be blessed for taking care of him until the end. I agree with you, unfortuantely there don't seem to be many Drs. of anything that aren't just in it for the money.. May God richly bless you for all you have done and give you back 100 fold for all you spent on little Moses.
