I received a good used carseat from a friend, however when I washed the padded fabric that lays inside, it fell apart. Does anyone know if I can purchase a replacement? Thanks!!

Don't know if you can get a precut replacement, but you can buy foam "sheets" from the fabric or craft store and cut your own . . .just use the fabric as a guide. .

Try ebay and the manufacturer's website. There are also some places that do designer covers, but I believe those are more of a slip-cover.

Please check that the seat you received meets current safety requirements and has no recalls. I really don't think there is anything wrong with a used seat from a trusted source, but I was surprised that the cover fell apart...I've washed mine many times and they've held up fine. If it was stored in extreme heat or cold the supporting plastic and foam could also be degraded.

You can check with the maker of the car seat. I was told in a baby care class, to NEVER get a used care seat (friend or not, I know how expensive they are, I just bought 2 this weekend), for these reasons: 1. you don't know how the seat was treated; was it ever in a wreck, was it the main seat or was it used for back up/ grandparents pick up...2. the fabric of the car seat was treated when made with a flame retardant, washing the seat cover also washes this out, clean only with water and a cloth ( I know how tempting it is to want to wash it, I've a baby carrier that I'd like to take a pressure washer to), 3. All car seats have an experation date, check it and see if it is still up to standards, if there isn't a date on it, then it was most likely made before the law was changed and is too old.(double check on line though)
I know that I sound paranoid, my mom thinks I'm an idiot and the person who told this to me was one too ( it was a doctor/ nurse practicioner who was trained by the hospital and up on all of the research/ law requirements)so they knew what they were talking about. =)

I think it just depends on what kind of car seat it is. The only two brands we have used are Graco and Britax ans you can replace the covers on both of those brands, Just check out the manufacture website.
