Removing Wax from Kitchen Floor

I wax this floor every other month with floor wax from Lowes. I pour it on and smooth it out then it's shiny. My MIL waxed this floor every month. So it has a lot of wax on it.

I accidentally stepped on it last month and my shoe print is firmly in it. I mixed up some Ammonia and water then got on my knees to get it sopping wet then wipe it up. It was like getting dried Elmer's Glue up that was about an eighth of an inch thick. Gooey and nasty feeling. It was slow going and my knees gave out.

The Ammonia really did a number on my lungs too. I had 2 floor fans going, one behind me blowing towards me and one in front of me blowing away. I was still breathing in a ton of Ammonia fumes and getting sort of lightheaded and nauseous.

My husband came in and told me I had it mixed way too strong. I agreed and went outside to breathe fresh air. When I came back in I mixed half as much as I had put in before but it didn't do hardly anything.

Then I put a little bit stronger mix into my floor mate and went over the floor a bunch. It left marks all over it where the brushes and gotten wax up a little bit but then it also left shiny strips too.

I am not built for being on my knees scrubbing this floor with noxious fumed stuff.

What else can I do? I need to get this up.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

It's heavy expensive tile/linoleum. She bought it directly from the manufacturer because it was way too expensive in the flooring store. It's a nice sturdy floor.

I used to clean houses, and the only way I ever got all that wax up was straight ammonia, and letting it soak for a bit. Sorry I don't have better news.

Yeah, that's something I'd let my fingers do the walking for.

Even if you succeed in removing the wax that has the foot prinf you'll need to remove wax from the entire floor so that all the floor looks the same. I suggest you get heavy duty wax remover from a janitorial supply busness. They may be able to give you information that will help.

This is going to take a lot of hard work.
Anything I've ever used to strip floor wax has always had a lot of fumes involved but Google it and maybe there's something new out there that won't be as bad as ammonia or mineral spirits.
Maybe you could pay a college student to do it for you.

What kind of floor is this? I have NEVER used wax, but my all my floors have been carpet, wood, tile or stone.
Is it linoleum? My auntie always swore by a weekly scrubbing (yes, hands and knees) of hot water and soap, with a little bleach.
The cheaper the material, the harder it is to clean :-(
