I didn't see it, but I can see where it could happen.
My mom lost her job and her health insurance. She opted to take a program that would put her back in school. Since this was the second time she had been out of a job due to plant closure, she thought that she should learn a skill and not be in this situation again.
A couple months later she discovered she had breast cancer. She had to apply for Medicaid, and she cleared. But, had my dad more just 600 dollars more a year, she wouldn't have.
So, yeah, she would have had cancer and not been able to have the surgery. I know my mom, and if it was between complete and total financial ruin for her and my dad, or death....she would have let the cancer take it's course.
This is why I get so riled up about these issues. And why I get so angry when people say that people on Medicare are there because they are lazy or by their own choices. Because neither of those scenarios apply here. My mom worked 30 years full time, paid taxes for 30 years. She didn't ask for the plant to shut down, and she sure as hell didn't choose to get cancer....GRRR. End of rant.
