I use Aquaphor after my daughter's bath. Pat dry the skin where it's slighly damp and put slather it on. Her skin is smooth in the morning.
Does anyone have a lotion or home remedy that works well for exzema?

Hi K.! My daughter had eczema from pretty much the beginning. We tried Aquaphor, Eucerin, all the creams the doctors gave her (cortizones, etc) and the ONLY thing that really helped was a product we found at Target. Its called Gentle Naturals and it comes in a box with Winnie the Pooh on the front. Its about 6-7 dollars but lasts a long time and is WELL worth it! Otherwise, avoid any soaps with scents to it and use laundry soap that is free and clear. Thats what worked for us. Good luck!
Where is the exema. I work for a natural body care company and we have a mask that actually works quite well for it. Our bodybutters may help with it as well, they are very hydrating and do not have the harsh ingredients a lot of products have.
Let me know if you would like to have a link to my website. I'm not allowed to freely post it, but I would love to share the products with you, if you are interested.
What ever the choice, I would avoid products with mineral oil in them. Mineral oil doesn't let anything in or out of what it's covering so it can actaully be harsh to the skin and with a sking condition like exema, you probably want to be extra sure to stay away from it., You want to be sure to let the moisture in and let the skin breath.
Vanicream is great!!!
try visiting dermadoctor.com many great lotions to choose from
i'm currently using kp duty so far so good
I swear by this it's cheap, and works better than any other cream, prescription, ointment, steroid out there.
I only give my daughter milk here and there like she has it at school lunch but that's it. We have milk in the house but she only uses it with cereal. I believe milk makes my daughter's worse. There are other ways to get calcium etc.
I then only bathe my child 2-3 times a week, a quick shower never sitting in the bathtub forever or with bubbles. Now in the summer she definately takes more showers but she also doesn't have bad eczema in the summer either.
When she does get out of the shower I dry her off and she stands with her arms and legs spread out. I use the generic form of Eucerin from Walmart called Equate Dry skin cream it's $4 dollar for a tub of cream. I slather it on my daughter very very thick hardly rubbing it in. I then put her pajamas on like footie pj's or something so it doesn't make a mess on her sheets and it holds in the moisture. She wakes up and her skin in usually alot better sometimes baby soft with no signs of eczema.
my sister in law uses Aveeno baby and Mustela products for her little one's exzema. I've seen Mustela at Von Maur and Aveeno baby pretty much everywhere.
I swear by vanicream. They have lotion, sunscream, soap, etc.
Try eliminating dairy from their diet - dairy sensitivities were the cause of my sons exzema. Exzema is usually a reaction to something - not just a condition they "have." It is not easy, but my doctor told me that usually when kids have excema they are sensitive to other things as well and I found that eliminating dairy helped with other health issues for him as well. Check the internet for more information. I haven't seen an exzema flair up in about two years and he used to have it so bad he would bleed.
As far as topical - use cetaphyl lotion every day to keep his skin hydrated. They have soap too. Oatmeal baths are also a good releif. do not use anything oily, the skin needs to breathe (sending on advice from my kids' doctor)
Good luck
Hi K. :)
I know 3 different people (who don't even know eachother) swear by this. It's a natural approach to help relieve the itching and clear up eczema. Put oatmeal in the bath water when taking a bath. This helps soothe the itchiness. Also, eat lots of avocado which clears up the eczema itself. Apparently this has worked for them every time I was going to give it a shot with my daughter when she had eczema but it cleared up before I had the chance.
The suggestion from the other moms to check your diet is an excellent one as well. I think what helped my daughter's eczema clear up though was switching laundry detergent to a natural, organic one. She hasn't had an issue with it since then. I also make sure to moisturize her twice a day with an organic moisturizer. I use Erbaviva and it works great for her :) Good luck!
I think you should try to find out if it's contact eczema or regular eczema. Try cutting out fabric softener... my daughter had SEVERE contact eczema and breaks out if we use it in her laundry (to compensate we use a little borax or baking soda to help soften the clothes). Also, get rid of all fragranced items and dyed items (and try to switch to using plain apricot oil as a moisturizer on the skin right out of the bath/shower instead of chemical-filled lotions). I'd try these things first, if nothing changes, it's probably diet related and you'll have to talk to a doc about it. A great "home remedy" is putting about a cup of oatmeal in some cheesecloth and soaking it in the tub for about ten minutes... strain out the oatmeal "milk" and soak in the tub for about 20 minutes. Good luck!
Hi K.,
I am a customer for a great Wellness Company. They have awesome lotion that is made primarily for serious skins issues like eczema, psorisis, etc. It has cured 1,000's of people's skin problems!! ____@____.com if you want more info!
Yes, I second the Gentle Naturals w/Winnie the Pooh available at Target. We tried everything on the shelf and even medication from the pediatrician and made very little difference. The Gentle Naturals is keeping my 22 month old from scratching and no more dry patches.
Hi K.,
There is only one thing I can say, educate yourself on the things you use on a daily basis.
Here are some other tidbits to watch for:
Don't buy clothes that are wrinkle free or stain resistant. They have formeldahyde in them.
Most of the laundry detergents in the grocery stores have chemicals in them. They can irritate the skin, especially someone with sensitive skin. Also, baby's skin is more porous, therefore the absorbtion rate is much higher. If you think about it, our skin is always in contact with an article of cloth that has been washed. From our bed sheets, to our pillow cases, blankets, to the clothes on our backs.
Our compnay does offer a wonderful lotion and another product that our daughter has seen much releif with. If you would like to learn more let me know.
Best wishes,
J.
Both my sons and my husband have exzema. We've tried a lot of different products, but have recently switched over to Melaleuca products, and they are working amazingly. I switched our detergents and bought their Renew Cream, and it seems to be working really well. You can find it at mymelaleuca.com.
