Relocating to San Antonio

C., we relocated to SA 18mos ago with our 2 small children. We lived in the Woodbridge Apartments (at Wurzbach and Vance Jackson - its just outside 410, maybe a 10-15 min drive to the Alamo Heights area). We had a 900 sqft appt - 2brms/2bath - for $650/mo. The community was gated and the office/maintenance people were very professional and took good care of us. The property was well maintained, but not brand-new - so it didn't have all the newest designs, but it was updated enough to comfortably buy us some time to shop for the area of town we really wanted to live in. It is conveniently located to 410 and I-10. Good luck in your search and Beinvenedos a la San Antonio!

You might consider a duplex. I lived off Rittiman and Harry Wurzback for about 4 years. I have a friend that still lives in that area, and has raised her 3 kids there.

Can you pick up one of those apt. guides and do some calls? What about the newspaper? I found mine just driving in the area I wanted to be in.

check out the schertz cibolo area it is right outside of san antonio but an easy commute. You have access to 1604 and IH35. Great schools for when your baby gets school age and you save on your insurance cost because you are not in bexar county. Schertz was voted #1 city in Texas and #40 Nation wide of the best places to live.Their are great youth programs plus you will be close to the Forum(great place to shop).

we stayed in the "marquis" 1604 and bitters until our house was built. very nice and safe area....near rogers ranch neighborhood.

Welcome to SA. I just relocated from Indiana just over a month ago. I don't know your price range, but we just moved into The Retreat at Canyon Springs. It is beautiful and SO family friendly. We got a 3br/2.5 townhome with a 1car attached garage for $900/mo (just over 1/2 retail)! I guess they have undergone a managment change and are trying to rebuild their client base. They are "older" for the area, which really just means the community is finished. They started being built in 2000. They are huge a gorgous. There are two swimming pools, a huge clubhouse and a small playground next to pool #2. Managment is great and they participate in the Cares program. Here is the website and it is even more beautiful in person. They did not have this special listed online, so I would call. It is about a 25min drive, but it is a great area. My dh also works about 30-35 min away, but there is no way that I would stay near were he works, (Rackspace). We stayed near there for 3days while we tried to settle in here. There were 3 break-ins on the thrid day. I'm no familliar with Alamo Heights though. This deal was $300-$400 cheaper then anything else we found.

The are athat you are looking at is more high end, so the rent will be higer. There are a couple places off Boradway. You might also be interested in the Stone Oak area, it too is a nicer area with great schools. I guess it all depends on your price range for the rent...

Why get in a hurry??? There are several nice motels that rent
by the week! Check into one of those then look around, but,
let me give you one word of advice!! Find out what school
your being assigned to before you rent an apartment!! Alamo
Heights is nice, but, it is also very expensive now! Houses
that used to sell for $70,000 are now $250,000 +~!~
With gasoline going up up up and awayyyy, you might want to get close to the school you will be teaching at!\
