I am in the process of adopting a baby and I want to breastfeed. How can I get my milk supply to come in? So far i am pumping every 4 hours and taking goats rue 3x's aday. Is there anything else I should be doing? My doctor won't prescribe Reglan as i have many drug allergies. Please help as the baby is due in less than a month.

What can I do next?

well I'm not sure if this will actually help start lactation but when I was nursing I had a sharp decline in my production when my son decided he didn't want to nurse and I had to rely on pumping stimulation alone. I took Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle, nine pills a day of each, Wow in about a day and a half my supply was through the roof! I hope this was helpful...oh...and dont stress. Have a little wine, close your eyes and think of that warm cuddly baby nuzzling up to you.

Have you visited with a lactation consultant? I worked with one at a local hospital. I didn't even think about breastfeeding my adopted baby until she was in my arms and cried and I actually felt letdown, like MILK letdown. It was the weirdest thing. I told a friend of mine who was a nurse and she hooked me up with the lactation consultant. (I had a nine-year-old birth child so I had actually breastfed before. But it was a long time before.)

I think you're doing all the right things. It might get easier when you actually have the baby. It might trigger some things physically for you. I did pumping, and also had a little device with formula in it that I wore when feeding her. You need to ask about that and get one. But you won't need that until you get your baby.

Also, if it doesn't work out so well, don't stress too much about it. It's an option, and a good one for sure, but it's not the end of the world if it doesn't work, trust me. It worked for me for a little while. Good luck with it! And congrats!

If you take Fenusgreek with Blessed Thistle - that will really help. I've honestly never met anyone in who used both at the same time, not have great results. Also, make sure you are eating healthy and keeping hydrated. Start eating oatmeal too. If you are able to, try pumping every 2 hours... especially if it's getting closer to the pick up date. You can always ask the BioMom to breastfeed for the first day too - - to ensure the baby gets plenty of colostrum!!

Have you heard of domperidome? I don't know if you are allergic, but I know it's used (off label) to increase milk supply. My lactation consultant recommended it to me. You should DEF contact LLL. : )

I haven't looked to see if it was recommended already, but Fenugreek. A natural herb that promotes breastmilk. I was told to take it when I had my boys as I had poor milk production.
