My son's father is a prescription junkie.. He had broke a rib & nothing could be done w/it so he got pain pills for it & well then he was finally feeling better (his rib) & was going to stop taking the pills. Well later in the day started to get sick like flu sick - throwing up, sweating & etc.. Well he decided to take a pill & felt fine after & now 2 years later is still taking them.. We are not together & havent been in awhile but dont want to see my son lose his father. How can someone w/NOTHING go to rehab?? He has no job, insurance or anything!! He jumps from ex to ex girlfriends for places to stay. His family has nothing also so they cant help.. So he has all the time in the world to go but he says he cant afford to pay for rehab.. So how do people go?? Thanks in advance..

What can I do next?

Contact Social Services. They should be able to get him into rehab and have it paid for by Medical Assistance.

I recommend that you start going to Al-Anon meetings. Al-Anon is for the families if substance abusers. He can also go to AA or NA meetings (Narcotics Anonymous) find a sponser and get help.

He has to be willing to get help and stop using. If he is not willing to stop you will be on a roller coaster with him. You can also contact his doctor. Where is he getting the medication from?

I don't have an answer for your question, however, until he's ready to deal with the problem, rehab will not work.

Call some rehabs in your area - they can help you find the funds and discuss the best next step.

Sounds like my best friends ex husband. Well, Bergen Regional Medixal Center in Paramus, NJ is meant for people with know insurance or people on Medicaid services. Said friend has been working there for 7 yrs. They will work with him to get state funding and charity care.

Was he ever in the military? I know the VA clinics have rehab facilities in their hospitals.

He can apply for Medicaid. He has no income, no healthcare--he should qualify.
The he needs to find rehabs that will accept his Medicaid.
They will detox him and recommend a rehab/give him a list of rehabs.
