Hello again mamas! I have a question about the nap issues of my son. He since birth did not nap great but we finally got him to sleep for 1.5+ hours for a nap and it was great. We used to have to gently rock him while he lay in his crib until he fell asleep but haven't done that in a really long time ... until this past week that is. He doesn't cry ... he just gets up and plays around in his crib. He will throw his bink on the floor. I have been just going in every 5-10 minutes and giving him his bink back and laying him back down but he almost always gets back up again. So I usually go in and lay him down and rock him a little while he lays in his crib annd he almost immediately falls asleep. I know that he is tired and wants to sleep but it's like he can't calm himself down at naptime. He goes to sleep just fine at bedtime and I make sure that we have a little down and quiet time before nap. And once he goes to sleep ... he only sleeps for like an hour tops! I am just at a lose to why he is regressing to this so ... any ideas or suggestions? Has anyone else went through this at this age? Is it just a phase? Thanks for any help!

If he isn't crying let him be. So what if he is having some quiet play time? He is still resting and will fall asleep. If you think that he is overtired, try putting him down 20 minutes earlier.

Like "Workinmom", leave him in his cot if he is content. If he's throwing his bink, he must not want it. Let him play, he'll learn eventually to fall asleep himself. It's normal for them to sleep 20mins to a couple of hours for a nap - their body will let them know. I wouldn't focus on it being a must to nap, some days they'll nap once, other days he'll be tired and sleep often.

ummm yes. totally normal for that age. My first pretty much did the same thing. She always went to sleep on her own and slept for about 2 hours then she hit 18 months and would not take a nap and when she did it was for one hour tops! I started just staying in her room until she feel asleep and that helped. Like I would lay her down and just stand right next to her crib. I wouldn't talk to her or make any eye contact...just stand there. As long as I was there she would lay still and fall asleep with in 5 to 10 minutes. The good thing was that as she got older she started sleeping longer. I can't remember at what age but I remember it was before she turned two so maybe around 21 or 22 months she went back to sleeping 2 to 3 hours. So hang in there it should get better in a few months.
