I am still lactating. Can I have smoked salmon? If I can not, how long before I can breastfeed again?

What can I do next?

I have never heard of any reason to avoid smoked salmon for breast feeding mamas- Are you worried about toxins? if so just eat it a few times/month otherwise go ahead eat and enjoy!

smoked salmon is cured and fine to eat. MY OB.Gyn told me I could eat it while pregnant with no problem.

Eat up. It's filled with healthy fats that your baby needs.

Triple yes. This is the first food I had after my baby was born and my favorite one while lactating her. So delicious and healthy and one of the best for Omega3. Now my daughter is nearly 7 and she is fond of it too. Sometimes I put olive oil, it matches so well!
Enjoy and Bon appetit

You can pretty much eat whatever you want while bf'ing. I did. I know some babies are sensitive to certain foods. my friend's baby would get an upset tummy with tomato sauce. But I wouldn't cut out any foods until your baby has a consistant issue with it. I was lucky and didn't have to cut out anything.

I have never heard anything on smoked salmon and breastfeeding. I ate it when my son was a baby and nursing all the time. The only things I know to be careful about were prescription meds and alcohol. Salmon has lots of good oils in it which you will be giving to your baby in your milk. If you are worried about the mercury levels, it is really only a concern if you are eating it all the time. Once and a while should be fine.

I'm confused....why couldn't you eat smoked salmon?
I breast fed both of my babies. I ate what I wanted. I was careful to notice if anything in particular bothered them or upset their tummies. I guess I was lucky, I didn't have any problems at all. And, ironically, neither of my children were ever picky eaters. I don't know if there is a connection there at all, but......
Unless you, yourself, have any dietary restrictions, you should be able to eat anything. If your baby gets fussy after you've eaten something, don't automatically assume it's what you ate. But do keep track. If you have the same thing a couple of weeks later and it happens again, it could be the onions or some spice in what you ate, for instance. Until then, you shouldn't be afraid to eat anything. You need good calories so you can make plenty of milk for your baby.

Of course, you can eat everything, your body filters it before it comes out in the breast milk.
