Hi sometimes by son would do the same thing. I would give him the medicine and blow into his face and he would take a breath and swallow the medicine at the same time. I hope this helps.
Hi! I was wondering if there are any tips out there for a 7 month old that is now refusing to take his liquid medicine. He turns his head and pushes it away. When I hold him hands he spits the medicine back out, like he is blowing bubbles and laughs. I dont know how much he actually gets in him when he does this, so I dont want to try it again. So any tips or hints would be great!
I finally tasted the medications and they were really bad. So now we have them flavored at the pharmacy and it has helped a bunch. He still fights it but once he has a taste of it, he stops! Thank you so much!

My son did that too. I think they all do at one time or another. I use to use an eyedropper and put it all the way to the back of his throat so that the only thing he could do is swallow it.
Hang in there.

oh i hate wen that happens!... what i do is squeeze thier cheeks together like fish lips while i give the medicine a little at a time either into the cheek or back of mouth. has he always done the bubble blowing or is it new? if its new he maybe excited about doing it and just picks the wrong time to. most drs will say that if you think your child spit the whole does out give them another one. if you dont feel comfortable doing that call his dr and see what they say.
Hi D.,
After checking with my doctor to make sure the medicine wouldn't be adversely affected by mixing it, I either mixed it with formula or juice and water to water it down and gave it to my son during feeding. The hardest part was judging how much I thought he would drink to make sure he got the entire dosage. I fretted all the time that he wasn't getting enough. If this is his first liquid medicine, it's probably just a new taste and he's doing what all babies tend to do - play with it. Just keep trying and be patient. If he's laughing, it's a good sign. Hang in there.
My daughter did (and STILL) does the same thing and she is 2 now!!!!
Here is my trick. I call it "spike the milk." My daughter Olivia was SO bad that if she even saw the medicine she would freak out. This is what I did. I put the medicine in her sippy cup. She COULD NOT watch me do this or she would freak so I would have her occupied in another room. I would not fill up the entire cup so she would get the medicine faster. If your baby is still on the bottle I would give him half the bottle and then put in the medicine. Usually, the baby won't know the difference. If he does notice, put have the dosage in...and the other half a little later. Hope this helps!!
God bless
You are not alone.... I have experienced the very same thing as you. My daughter too use to either spit it right out or she would make herself gag which would cause her to throw it back up. It use to frustrate me so I would as much as possible avoid it and only do it when I really needed to. Im not too fond anyway in giving any of my kids medicine unless I really need to. Anyways, when i did have to administer medicine I would put in a cup (or what ever your child drinkes from) with a little bit of milk or juice. Just enough of liquid so if they drank it they would drink it all along with the medicine. Good luck!
did you try getting it flavoured at the pharmacy? My daughter is on numerous meds (6 mos) and we get it flavoured there. My pharmacist also mixes 1 of them with sugar. I then have to keep it refrigerated, but the baby loves it. Just like mary poppins says, a spoon full of sugar helps the medecine go down!
my lil one went through that to sometimes it helps if you let them do it them selves thjat is what mine wanted. Put it in one of those pacies med cup and give it to them. Or mix it with they fav juice. good luck
I don't know if you are breastfeeding or not but this is what I did with my son when he was about that age. While feeding I would use the hand I was holding him with to hold his free hand against his body. Then I would use my other hand and stick the dropper in the corner of his mouth. I would just squirt a little bit in at a time and he would swallow it before he realized what was going on. After he started eating again I would wait for a few seconds and do it again. Pretty soon he had taken his complete dose without much of a struggle! You might be able to do the same thing with a bottle with his dad's help if you're not breastfeeding. I hope it helps!
I used to work at a pediatric urgent care clinic and I've seen this in all ages. So...unfortunately you have to hold him down, then place the syringe on the side of his mouth (between his cheek and gums) and inject the meds slowly, making sure he swallows before giving more. If he has too much liquid at one time he will manage to spit it out, but if it's 1cc/ml at a time usually its not enough for him to spit out. Now if he cries (which he may), or doesn't want to swallow then blow on his face fast and hard...it will startle him a bit and cause him to swallow. It works like a charm, especially on the little ones. Good luck!
