Dana!
I know your pain. My 16 year old has struggle with Inattentive ADD. Same as A.D.H.D but without the hyperness. She first started showing signs in 2nd grade. At that time I talked to a physician and he asked me a few questions said she had it and said we'd try her on a medicine for a few weeks and if that didn't work we'd try her on something else. Needless to say I was not going for that. I needed some medical proof or something! My daughter was not going to be a guinea pig for anything.
So years went by and she was passed on even though she struggled. Well in 7th grade I finally decided to look at some other avenues. We went to 2 psychologists over the past couple years. My daughter didn't care for either one. Then it was such a hassle to go there get them to write a letter and then have my peditrician write the script. So we kind of gave up. And the medicine Ritalin LA seemed to help a little but not enough. And I did my research and really trusted my peditrician so I was comfortable with using that med.
Well with her still struggling in school I decided to find a psychiatrist who could counsel and write the script for her. She will be a junior this year. We went to this dr. in desoto yesterday as a matter of fact. He wrote her a prescription for a newer drug. I don't remember the name of it but it last for 12 hours. I don't know if she took it today or not.
But I'm praying it will help her focus this year so she can prayerfully graduate on time.
So you're not the only one. And you have to do what's best for your child even it you don't really want to.
Please keep in touch and let me know how things go. I will get the name of the med and let you know.
Take care and God bless!
