The pediatrician I used to take my son to retired his practice and only does ADD/ADHD cases now. I have never seen him for that but he was a good pediatrician..Here's his website...https://docyoung.com/about-adhd-doctor
I'd like to have my 7y/o son evaluated for ADD and possibly start cognitive therapy. I'm not ready to medicate yet but I think teaching him and us some useful tools to help him focus and concentrate would help. Has anyone gone through behavioral therapy and had good results? Do you have recommendations for a great doctor that doesn't medicate right away?

My son had ADHD and we do medicated but only after years of trying everything else. The combo with finally found that works for him is occupational therapy (we use Dynamic Therapy) Behavior therapy (we use Tammy Cline at The Behavior Exchange in Dallas) and Cognitive therapy at Learning Rx. The progress has been Amazing and our life is FINALLY functional and my son is doing awesome at school.
Good luck with your journey!

I can't recommend a particular doctor, but my dd, age 8, is currently going through an ADD evaluation. Have you had the school do a screening yet? That is a place to start. We did the Connor's scale which unfortunately did not give a clear indication. Our school's counselor recommended talking to our regular pediatrician. Our pedi said we could go one of 2 routes. Either have a pediatric neurologist do the evaluation and diagnosis and prescribe medication if needed, or go to a psychologist that specializes in diagnosing and treating ADD. They can't prescribe meds, but will recommend them or not to the pedi to prescribe. If you are reluctant to do meds (like me), then your best bet is to go to a psychologist because they also offer behavior therapy. The neurologists only prescribe meds and offer no therapy. Just a thought, also, have you asked your school counselor if he or she can help with any focusing tips or therapy? Ours has offered to meet my my dd once a week to work on staying focused and ignoring distractions. Good luck.
