References for Places for Eye Corrective Surgery

My husband has been talking about getting his eyes fixed for a long time now. We are finally in a position where we can afford it, but we don't take surgery on his eyes lightly. (We already know he's a good candidate for it.) I have heard a few horror stories from people who ended up with worse vision than they started with, so I wanted to get referrals from people who have hopefully had good experiences. (We are in the St.Charles County area but anywhere in the general St.Louis vicinity will work.) Thanks!

I was really nearsighted (-10!) and Pepose Vision Care did my Lasik like 10 years ago. They were (and still are!) wonderful and I continue to follow up with them for my annual checkups. My husband also went to them. They are certainly not your low cost option, but Pepose was one of the doctors that was in on the clinical trials for RFK and Lasik and he's a genius. Best of luck - it's the best money I ever spent!!

I too went to Dr. Jay Pepose and had the surgery about 5 years ago. I am so happy I did it. I wish I had done it sooner. My husband, sister and some friends have also gone to him. All of us have had great results. Pre-surgery I couldn't even see the big E. Now I see about 20/16!!! I was very nervous about having the surgery so I did research on various doctors first to see what their statistics were for people with poor vision. I would recommend that you call around to ask about that before you pick a doctor. Dr. Pepose's statistics 5 years ago were far better for people with poor vision than a cheaper alternative I was considering. Although I may have turned out just fine going to a different doctor, I wasn't going to risk it and then regret it later that I didn't go to Pepose (what's a little more money when it comes to my eyes). Good luck!

Dr. Jay Pepose in Chesterfield is wonderful! I had LASIK in 03/01 and had a great experience. I did a lot of research on area drs and felt I was in good hands with him and his staff. I am not sure if this still applies...but he gives a discount to those who attend one of his seminars that last about an hour. I recommend going to one of them b/c they provide a lot of information and you can meet him. I LOVE that I was able to have LASIK done. My only complaint is poor night vision because of halos but it is worth it. Hope all goes well!
