Red Mark

My son (7 months old) woke up this morning to a red mark on the side of his face, it is about the size of a half dollar, and warm to the touch and a little swollen. I dont see anything like "bite" marks on within the red, so I dont think it is a bug bite. Do you think it could just be allergies... he had sweet potato for the third time last night..??
Other than the mark... he is fine, happy, eating, playing...
Any thoughts?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for your advice! The area was not itchy for him, in fact, it didnt bother him at all. As yesterday progressed, the mark slowly went away. This morning it is barely noticable.

Hey! I had almost the same thing happen to my little girl a few weeks back. I don't remember it feeling warm to the touch though but after fussing over it (we were supposed to get her pictures taken that weekend) we all ended up deciding it was a bite of some kind. I'm still a little miffed about it because even though it's gone, I can still see a tad bit of redness where it was- I don't think anyone else notices it but I do. I got told by family that if it was food allergies, it would have been more than just one mark though.

Hi T.. I apologize; I have very little information about the red spot. Did you get any other good responses? It does however, sound a bit like what doctors told my mother was an allergic reaction to something. Unfortunately, they could never tell her to what. She will occassionally get red whelps on her face, hands feet, etc. They will just pop up and itch a little. Nothing too serious, but Benedryl usually takes care of it. You might try some children's Benedryl and see if it is at all helpful.

If you don't mind me asking, what is it you do from home? I am so desperate to find something I can do from home too. I went back to work for four months after my son was born and it was awful. I missed him so much. I'm at home now, but I won't be able to stay long if I don't find something I can do from home. If you don't mind sharing, I'd love to know how you found your "at home" job. Thanks so much. Hope to hear from you soon.

ttrty thte sweet potatoes one more time. he very well could be allergic to it. Have you ever fed him them before. If the red mark continues to swell call your dr. and make them aware of it. If you need me e-mail me at ____@____.com and let me know how it turns out please.

I would get him the the pediatrician right away to make sure he doesn't have impetigo. My neice had this off and on from infanthood to age 3 or so. If they scratch or itch at it, it can spread. It doesn't warrant a trip to the ER or urgent care, but I would try and get him in within the next day or so as it can get much worse and is easier to treat when it first flares up.

Not sure if this is what yor son has, but it sounds like a possibility.
