Hi Ladies, hahahaha what should i say. I am embarrassed but i do need your suggestions how should i proceed. I called the defensive school and the lady who attended my call was not the experienced one. On my every question she put me on hold if she is asking someone or reading it in the rule book. Ok, i got this red violation notice which gives me four options. Have anyone from you got such a notice then please help me. I am not going for option B which says identify the driver who i am and am not going for the option C which says request for a hearing. Option A says pay fine to court and option D says attend defensive driving school and pay school fee. My problem is that should i pay the fine to the court first or should i attend the school first. That lady told me i should attend the school first and then notify(appear personally in the court)the court that i attend the school and passed. What if i only pay fine to the court and dont attend the school. Will it affect my driving history? What if i attend the school and i fail the test and in that case what will be my options? Defensive school gives the option of online class also. Should i go for online class? Anybody had the experience please answer asap. Tons of thanks for your precious advice and time.

Hi,

My experience with such issues is you register for the defensive driving class. When you arrive, you will be asked for you citation info and the instructor will register it and you will pay the fee to take the class. After you attend to full session - usually 6-8 hours, it will be registered that you completed the class and your citation is dismissed and no points are logged against your license. Make sure you keep all records from the class confirming you completed it.

You do not need to attend the class and go to court. You do one or the other. If you attend the hearing, be prepared to defend the ticket or admit guilt, pay fine and court costs and points will be logged against your license.

The class is the best way to go since no points go against your license. This way, your insurance won't raise your rates of they find out.

Hope this helps.

I've been there. You can go to school once every two years for a violation and even though you pay to attend the class it's kind of a "freebie" so it's no points on your license. Definitely attend the class if you can. That's all you have to do, just pay attention and don't text :) The instructor will then let the DMV know that you attended, but they'll also give you a slip so keep that in your car for the next 6 months just in case you get pulled over and something shows up. Try not to get any more violations for the next couple of years cause next time it'll go on your record.

Hi, I have some experience with this being in a household of a Man and young men drivers! The first thing to identify: Is the car registered in your name? If not, you do not have to do anything. If it is registered in your Husbands' name, he writes that he is not the driver, DO NOT identify the driver and mail it back. Otherwise, you just pay and take the class and you do not have to pay the court, the class takes care of it. Also it does not get reported to your insurance and no points go on your license. Good LUCK!! C.

if there is a number for the court on the ticket call and see what they say. I got a regular speeding ticket a couple years ago and I took the class. it's an easy class and you won't fail. it does take up most of a saturday. it was around 100 dollars. if you pay the court fine it puts points on your license. I don't know how many points you get before they suspend your license. the points will affect your insurance rate and if you get to many of them they will suspend/revoke your license. after you take the class you can not take it again for 2 years.

You should definitely attend the school. It will affect your driving record if you only pay the fine, but if you go to the school it will not.
Good Luck, where did you get it, so I can watch out! :)

If this is the first time you've had to take the class in a year then take the class. It will not go on your record and they report to the court that you took the class. If you go to the court or pay your ticket it will go against your driving record. The key is you can't have taken the class in the past year. I'd recommend taking it online. I don't believe there is a test associated with it. If you go to the class it is a whole day of lecture and question and answer session. I've not done it online but my friends daughter said it's the same and you have a certain amount of time to complete it and they do ask questions to make sure you're really listening and not just turning it on and walking away.

Make sure you keep the slip they give you to prove you attended the Defensive Driving School. That slip is the only proof there is. Once they report to the DMV there is no back up record, so if there is a mistake in the transfer you will have wasted money and still have to face the consequences of the ticket (points/fines/warrants). It really did happen to my Mom, she lost her license because she couldnt prove being there without that slip!
The classes are only 5 hours now because a Senator had to attend one recently and made it a law! Hello..!!
It is way better if the instructor is actually a law official of some kind. The girl leading the class I took was unable to answer any questions in detail regarding the law, which is what you are there to learn!
Have fun!!

take the defending driving school. there is no test. you sit in a classroom for about 6 hours and watch videos and listen to a speaker. it does not affect your driving record. if you pay the fine without going to school, then you will get pts on your license. you can take the class on a sat or 2 nights during the week. but the classes fill up quick, so you need to schedule way before the court date or you can't go and will have to show up in court or pay the fine.

Go to school. It is not a big deal. My husband and I actually enjoyed it. The ticket doesn't go on your record. There is no test if I remember correctly and you don't have to go to court. You just go sit in class all day. The worst part is there will be people there who feel like they were wrongly accused and try to argue their case with the instructor, but they are pretty good at cutting them off. Have fun.

Hello, Yes it is embarrassing, I have been there. If you qualify for defensive driving school, you don't pay the ticket. You instead pay the school for the price of the class. So, set up your class date as soon as possible because it has to be before your court date. It'll all work out and you won't get points on your license/insurance. Hope it goes well for you :)
