It is only a violation if there was a sign that said no right turn on red. otherwise you should be yeilding to the oncoming traffic.

My husband was certain that he had stopped before turning right on a red light, however, when we reviewed the video, his wheels never actually stopped moving. It was a violation and he paid the $75 fine.

If you did not stop fully before turning right on red, then yes, it is a violation. These tickets don't stay on your driving record, so it's usually cheaper just to pay it than try to fight it.

My husband got one in the mail over the weekend, too. Same thing. He didn't come to a complete stop before turning right at the light. That is definitely a violation. We all know that you have to come to a complete stop before proceeding. If you look back at the ticket it should say that it's a $75 fine. It will also give you several ways to pay it.

right turn on a red light is legal- you just have to treat the red light as a stop sign and stop first. If you want to contest it there should be instructions on how to do so on the back of your ticket. You will have to have a court date, but it shouldn't be too much of a hassle. We just got a ticket in the mail for a red light- when it happened, we thought for sure the light was yellow- but watching the video makes it clear that it was red! Oops! We would have had to slam on our brakes to make that one though! Oh well!- Good luck with yours!

I got one of those too. Technically, you are supposed to stop at the red light even when turning right. I did a 'rolling' stop and never really stopped. No one was coming, etc. I was really angry but I paid the $75. I'm very careful to stop at all red lights now, even when just turning right.

Pay it and move on. My husband has received 2 since the cameras started. 1 where he was making a right turn and 1 where he went through a yellow light.

$75 each (both were in Plano)

I never got a ticket for this, but here is the law..

You may turn right at a red light (unless a no-turn until green sign is posted) but you must first come to a complete stop to be sure that there is no oncoming traffic.

If you think that you are right and you came to a complete stop, than you can fight it. However, if you go to court and lose not only will you have to pay the fee, but you may also have to pay court costs.

My dad got the same one. He called up and they viewed it since he did "stop". They told him you have to stop completely for 3 seconds before turning. He stopped only 1.5....

His fine was $95.

You must stop before you turn right. You can turn right on red, but you must come to a complete stop before you turn right.

I have no idea the cost, but you can call and they'll tell you and sometimes that info is on the back of the ticket.

You can protest the ticket, but you will lose if you didn't stop. The only chance you have is going to court and the cop not showing up and then they dismiss it. But the cops get paid to show up so they usually do. It is a large chunk of time and with little kids it is hard.

You must come to a COMPLETE stop and make sure no one is coming as they all have the right of way. I see people come to a slow down and just turn right in front of on coming traffic all the time and it needs to stop....so stop, look and then turn.....

As long as you stopped before turning, it was clear, and there were no signs that said not right turn on red THEN I would fight it!

Unless you are a company that leases cars to other people you can't fight it. It doesn't matter who the driver is, the person the car is registered to is the person they send the ticket to (my husband did it in my car). Since they can't prove who was driving the violation doesn't go on your record though, so just pay it. It's not worth the fight.
