Aquaphor is great for the cracking, but mentholatum will work on the cracking and maybe on the runny nose also. I hate the way it looks, so I only use it at night, but it works great for me.
I have terrible allergies and a constant runny nose. Nothing seems to help. Well, now my nose is red, cracked, oozing clear liquid from the cracks, bleeding...OUCH!!! Not to mention it's quite the beauty statement!
I have been to the doctor twice and have gotten 4 prescriptions and nothing works.
I have no other symptoms other than a runny nose so I would like some ideas of OTC meds that have possibly worked for you.
Also ideas on what may clear up my cracked nose. I have been putting Neosporine with pain relief becuase it makes it feel better but its not healing it!
Help me if you can!!!!

I can't answer about the runny nose, but for the hurt nose I would suggest medicated chapstick. Your nose is chapped from wiping/blowing it all the time. Put a thick coat on it right before bed and you will be amazed at how much this will help out. When I have a runny nose I do this every night and haven't had a red nose since.
I use Aquaphor for my kids drool rashes, exema and other very dry skin (which like AZ is common in a dry climate like ours in CO). Give it a try - slather it on at night especially.
Cake on the Aquafor or vasaline at night. You need to keep those areas from getting water so a base of the vasaline will help.
First off - switch to Puffs Plus tissues. They have lotion and nothing can compare. They will be much kinder to your nose.
I was going to recommend Neosporin or Bactracin cream to heal the nose.
Have you seen an allergist for your allergies? It's hard to believe that nothing will control them. I would definitely try a new allergist. You could also try the sinus rinse bottle by Neil Med.
CARMEX! Get the one in the tub, rub it on thick before bed. It will sting like a you know what. But it works! Very addictive stuff have them all over the house, got the habit from my mom. My kids (all older) love it too! Good luck!
Neti Pot....Nasal Irrigation
I have seasonal allergies like crazy. I use a neti pot once a day during "allergy season," and I eat local honey. I also use Alaway drops for my eyes if they get really itchy. The neti pot has made the biggest difference for me. No more medications needed!
When my kids get bad colds/allergy attacks, I just stick plain old vaseline on their noses, upper lips that are red and raw at night before bed and a few times during the day and it clears it up in a jiff...not sure about the cracked and oozing though :( Yech. Have you tried doing a saline nose rinse 2 times a day like SinuRinse by Neilmed -- it is awesome and definitely helps with allergies and Sinus issues.
My husband believes mentholatum (Vicks) is the cure-all for pretty much everything, and it's very nearly true. I would slap that stuff on every single night, whether your cracked or not. Also, if the cracking is due to constant wiping and nose-blowing, I would start using wet-wipes instead of kleenex...maybe even something with aloe in it. That should stop the problem before it starts.
You should try O'Keeffe's Working Hands Creme on your nose. My husband I and just got one at Bed Bath and Beyond and LOVE it. He has horribly dry cracked hands from work and it's really helping. I had a very dry spot on the back of my arm that's almost gone after just a few applications.
I'm not sure what to tell you about your allergies other than I feel your pain! Part of the reason my family moved to AZ is because my and my sister's allergies were so bad in NV. Good luck!
You can put Vaseline on it over night and all thought the day. Any diaper rash ointment should work too but Vaseline has no scent and is fairly invisible.
As far as the runny nose goes, has your Dr suggested using a neti pot to rinse your nose with warm saline? It might help get it under control.
(And Vaseline is not made from crude oil. That's an urban myth that's been making the rounds.)
I second the chapstick to heal your nose... allergy meds, sample them till you find one that works or ask the doc for one of the prescription nasal inhalers, they work. I think they take time to work, tho, steroids are usually what they are, and its like with asthma meds, they take time to build up in your system. find one that helps, and remember next year to start it before allergy season does.
aquaphore for the nose.
If it is allergies...what does the melting pot do to help with this ? Will that make it worse ? I hear people love the melting pot. sold at sprouts
