my kids get the same thing, just overheated. We have them drink a few gulps of water and maybe take off a layer. :) It looks funny, sometimes my little one's look like they have a strait edge on them - very odd!
Hello everyone!
I have a question that pertains to my three year old daughter. This past week she has been getting these bright red splotches on her face and once even on her arm that appear suddenly and last for about a minute. They usually happen when she has been running around or when she has gotten upset. The weirdest things is that the ones on her face look like streeks sometimes. I plan to call the dr on Monday, but I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
Thanks
Moms,
Thank you all for the great advice and tips about this problem. I spoke to the nurse at our pedi office and she said that basically without them being able to see them because they disappear so fast they really aren't sure what it could be. She said if she develops any other symptoms or if they become more severe, to make an appointment. She said that it is probably an allergy to something but this is going to be difficult to determine. She has seasonal allergies (coughing sneezing not skin usually) that she takes Claritin for and the nurse said to just keep giving her that daily. She was off of the Claritin for about a week-I like to give her a break from it when I can during the winter because as soon as spring and summer arrive it's all downhill from there as far as the allergies are concerned! Anyway, thanks again,

Something similar happens to my daughter when she gets overheated--either from being over-bundled, after running around, and/or when she gets upset and overheated that way. It always subsides after I take of a layer of clothing, she calms down or slows down, or I put her into the bathtub.
Best wishes!
Is she getting lil bit hot while running around cause=ing her to become red in the face, take off a layer of clothing to cool her off this usually happens out in the sun on hot summer days but having layers of clothing can also be to blame
My best guess is a contact dermatitis...my son gets it occasionally from certain grasses or plants outside and even when it seems to disappear it will flare up in the bathtub or when he's running around due to increased warmth.
I wouldn't worry about it...the doctor will either give you some harsh chemicals to put on it or tell you not to worry. If it gets worse or seems to hurt, you might consider calling the doctor.
Try pure aloe vera or calendula if this skin isn't broken, and of course a bit of cold water first to rinse the area if you think she is brushing up against something.
Are they itchy? I had this happen with my son just after New Years. He was standing close to our fireplace during the first outbreak. His face was covered and his wrists and they itched like crazy, but like your daughter they were very short lived. He was fine and almost 24 hours on the nose they came back again. I chocked it up to hives... I never did take him to see the doctor, because its a little hard to bring them in when the rash isn't there for them to see. I decided if it continued another night I'd take pictures and take him in, but they didn't return. Apparently the majority of cases of hives a trigger is never found. They may be allergic to some virus they picked up or something like that..... doesn't necesarily mean there is a trigger in your home. Good luck, and if you get a minute update what your doctor said....Im curious!
It sounds like hives to me. If she is very fair the hives may come and go for a looong time like they did with my son. Could she have been exposed to an allergen of some sort?
Do you have a cat or has she been exposed to anyone elses cat or kitten? It could be cat scratch fever, which is caused by any bite, nick, scrape, lick on open wound or scratch by the claw or tooth of an infected cat. If you indeed suspect cat scratch ,take her in immediately, the bacteria is quite nasty and people usually continue to get sicker as time progresses.
It is often seen on the face as people tend to cuddle the animals. It will leave a teltale red scratch line. But, these streaks won't come and go as quickly as you say her streaks do.
Welts that come and go like you say she has are more often hives of some sort.
It sounds like it could be heat rash.
