Recurring Fever over a Period of Months Now

I have had little luck with research.

I have had a recurring fever over a period of about two months now. It will come and go, sometimes remaining for a week at a time.

It is always low grade 99 - 100, but I feel lousy. I had a very sore throat at one point, that went away. The main symptoms seem to be headache and achy all over (from the fever).

I have not had it for a couple of weeks and thought it was gone, but, today, without rhyme or reason, it is back and I feel gross.

Being down and out isn't an option for me...any thoughts?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

All blood work was normal; it appears that, after three years on Lexapro (put on for post-partum depression) I am going through some pretty bad withdraw . . . .
I can see why people do only natural treatments :o(

With low grade fever my doctor usually tells me rest and fluids. But if it recurrs and in your case comes and goes, they all of a sudden become much more concerned. I would call the doctor-on-call and state the same you said above, maybe with specific dates and lengths of illness. It does sound like something might be lingering that needs to be found.

See your own doctor first, but if he/she can't pinpoint a cause, you might wan to ask for a referral to an infectious diseases specialist. My mom had recurring fevers and they found a small cyst behind her heart. They said it "grows" and periodically bursts, releasing the toxins into her system that would make her feel really lousy for a week and run a low-grade fever for a week or so, then the body would clean itself out and she'd be fine until the next time it happened. It's not life-threatening and can be treated with antibiotics, but requires more powerful antibiotics over a longer period of time (6-8 weeks) than your more common infections. You may not anything even totally related to this, but an infectious disease specialist is trained to look for the "out of the ordinary" things if your blood panels come back normal.

I had similar symptoms about 3 years ago. My doctor said it was most likely a viral infection that my body was fighting, and to continue treating it as such: lots of water, healthy food, and as much rest as possible. Eventually I got through it. He did do blood work to rule out other things that could be causal - particularly thyroid function. But with normal labs, he said there was no harm in letting it run its course and treat the symptoms as necessary.
This is just my experience, and I'm not a doctor! If you're worried, see your physician. Good luck!
