Recovery Time

2 weeks ago I had my second c-section. For the first I don't remember what happened as I had had a grand mal seizure. This time around I flipped out while feeling the doctor pulling my stomach open and they had to knock me out. After the first c-section I was in the hospital for 5 days. By the time I had come home all bleeding had stopped and I was only just the tiniest bit sore. This time around 2 weeks later and I am still bleeding quite heavy at times, and my stomach is still sore to the touch, I have to wear VERY loose fitting clothes just to be able to function.

Of course I understand that having the same scars cut open for a second time will take longer to heal. My question is to anyone who has had a repeat c-section, how long on average does it take to at least stop bleeding and possibly lose the pain after having a repeat c-section?

What can I do next?

I too had a repeat c-section. The second took longer to recover than the first. I had general soreness for about a month, tenderness for maybe 3 weeks (didn't last as long as soreness). Tenderness turned to numbness and on parts of my scar I still have no feeling 15 months later. I had heavy bleeding 2 weeks, moderate to light bleeding 2 weeks. Stopped for a week and then my regular cycle started back (heavy bleeding for a week). I heard from everyone that my regualr cycle wouldn't start back until I stopped breastfeeding - HA! that wasn't the case with either of my two children :)

Hi T.,

I had an emergency C-Section with my first and 15 months later I had my second C-Section and I don't think it was that bad. With my second C-Sec I remember maybe bleeding for a week and I wasn't in that much pain wearing regular clothes by two weeks. I would call your doctor and make sure your not getting an infection or Staff infection inside your incision. I wouldn't think you should be in that much pain still. Hope I helped A. busymomsworkathome.com

I have had 2 c-sections and the 2nd was way worse than the first!!! I think it has alot to do with all the scar tissue that has formed in between the 1st and 2nd. I was bleeding for probably a month or so and the pain about the same. Another part of it is you are older with the 2nd child than the first and I think that has ALOT to do with it!

I have had 2 c-sections, and honestly the 2nd one was better. The doctor cut out the scar tissue from the first one before he sewed me back up. The only big issue I had was some water retention in some strange places. The bleeding lasted about 3 weeks, but was not heavy. I agree that you are definately older this time around which makes recovery harder the older you get though. If you are concerned, then I would definately call your OB. Good luck.

Hi Tiffani, I'm K., excuse my English, since is not my first language. I just wanted to tell you that I had a c section on January 29 with my baby boy, it was my first one, but it's been one month, well, the bleeding is almost gone now, but I'm still sore on my belly, like my skin, it's hard to explain, it's itchy, and I too have to wear loose clothes because it really bothers me the scar and the skin around it. So, i'm going through the same as you my friend, I put lotion and strech marks cream on my skin, and helps a little, yesyerday I went to the doctor and she said everything is fine and normal, so I'd say wait and is going to go away soon, I didn't have two c sections, and still is sore, but really is much better now.
Good luck and congrats on the baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was 27 when I had my second section. It took a lot longer to recover, but I had my tubes tied also, so that is what I attribute the excess pain and bleeding to. You were lucky with the first one if you did not bleed a lot. My first delivery was vaginal and I bled what they say is a "normal" amount. 4 weeks. I started my period after the 3rd week. My first section I bled for 4 weeks and the second I think it was 4 also, but it was heavier and a lot more painful. Sorry this is not an encouragement, but it is normal.

I have never had a c-section so I am not giving advice or experience. I used to work for an OB/GYN. I do know that you can bleed up until your 6 week post-partum. I hope that helps. I can't tell you anything about the pain. Congrats!
