Recommendation for a Good Ob/Gyn for a Woman After 40 Trying to Have a Baby

Dear Ladies, I need your advice very much. I became pregnant at 42 when I had already lost my hope to become a mom. But I had miscarriage on the 8th week. I feel as if I was neglected by my doctor. She even didn’t recommend that I take progesterone though my level is very low. It seems to me like she is used to dealing with young and healthy pregnant girls and doesn’t imagine someone can have a baby after 40. I still hope to become a mom but I think I need to change doctors. Can anyone recommend a good ob/gyn who has experience of dealing with pregnancy cases of women in their 40’s? I live in Olathe, Kansas and it doesn’t matter if a doctor is a man or a woman.
Thanks in advance to all of you!

I am terribly sorry to hear about your loss.

Looks like you have some great referrals to look at. Another one to consider would be Women's Care - http://www.womenscare-obgyn.com/ and Dr Mitchell. I had problems being pregnant with my second child past 35 (diagnosed with PCOS) but he worked with me and happy to report that I was finally able to conceive. I wish you the best of luck!

The miscarrriage rate for women over 40 goes up each year. That said, I'm not sure why your MD didn't check your progesterone and supplement you if it was needed. There are a number of ob providers in this area depending on what you are looking for. You might be happiest with a nurse midwife, but there are some good ob/gyn's in the area. I am a nurse midwife so my view is a little biased. You do need someone who will watch you closely especially in the first trimester. Understand thought, that progesterone will not help a pregnancy that is already not a good one. If the baby is good, then supplementing will help. Let me know if I can help.

This is the office that I go to: http://www.whcg.org/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx#. I LOVE Dr. Stone. She has been my OB/GYN since I was 16 and got diagnosed with a pituitary tumor. I had my first child at 37 and my second at 39 and she never lost hope in me. She also diagnosed me with PCOS and that diagnosis is what finally helped me to get pregnant. She referred me to an infertility specialist, however, it was through her knowledge that I was diagnosed.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I was 32 when I got pregnant for the first time, so even though I wasn't quite considered to be in a risky age group, I was closely monitored by my OBs, Dr. Hodes and Dr. Nauser. Here's their website and contact info: http://www.hodesnauser.com/

First of all let me say how sorry I am about your loss. I can't imagine how devestating that was.

In order to concieve my 2 wonderful boys I had to engage the help of a Reproductive Endocrenologist. I know exactly what you are saying about your doctor seeing so many prego people that they just don't seem to care about this one patient who needs help! I don't really have a OB/GYN name for you, but what I would recommend is contacting Dr. Daniel Stewart's office at Shawnee Mission. He is a Repro. Endo as I mentioned above. Even if you chose not to see him, you might be able to get a Dr. recommendation from that office. The staff is highly trained to be MUCH more sensitive than the regular OB/GYN staff and they are very helpful.

I wish you luck!
