Hmmm, well if you have a compost bin, it's not exactly 'waste', right?
Sorry, can't imagine life with no bell peppers (of any color)!
:(
I'm in need of a recipe that hides the taste of green bell papers. I hate, hate, hate them. Thanks!
ETA-
We get all our produce from a co-op. There were 4 bell peppers in the basket. We are committed to eating everything in the baskets, and not wasting it. Also, I don't know my neighbors (they don't speak English anyway, I couldn't communicate) to give them the peppers. We all hate bell peppers. It's not something we usually get in the basket, and we eat all other fruits and veggies.
Jo- I'm with you on the raw...yuck!! I don't particularly care for them cooked, either. I think they take over everything and the whole dish is left tasting like bell peppers!

I enjoyed reading this. I"m laughing at everyone that suggested stuffed bell peppers --Talk about the whole dish left tasting like disgusting bell peppers.
I can stand them in spagetti sauce or sloppy joe if very very finely chopped. That's all i can suggest.
have friends over and make homemade pizza and offer that as a topping?
Some suggestions:
1) Give them to your children's Teacher. Mine like getting produce.
2) I like bell peppers roasted. Toss it with EVOO olive oil, put on a baking pan. Turn on oven to 400 degrees. It is done when it is singed.
3) Find someone, anyone to give them away to.
4) Don't eat them.
I love bell peppers - sorry - raw and cooked!!
You can chop them up in hamburger and add them with taco seasoning for tacos, burritos or enchiladas....
We love stuffed bell peppers here. Have you ever tried those with hamburger and rice? If you boil them prior to cooking - they taste different.
You can finely chop them in many meals and salads. I'm sorry I can't be of more help....we love bell peppers here!
Chili. Make the peppers small and they'll absorb a lot of flavor from the other ingredients.
If you hate them, why eat them?
That being said, have you tried dicing them and sauteeing with other veggies to mix in pasta sauce? I never notice them that way, but then again I don't hate them.
If the rest of your household doesn't hate them as much, how about long slices along with onions, other peppers and and chicken or steak for fajitas. You'll be able to see them well enough to avoid them if you need to.
ADDED: When we used to get a farm produce delivery and started getting veggies I neither liked nor knew how to cook, I simply called and had them update my account to exclude those things and replace them with something else... example "trade persimmons for pears" or whatever.
I don't care for them raw either, but if you cut them really thin and grill them with pepper, salt, olive oil, and garlic, they are fantastic!
chop them super tiny, or use a food processor and freeze them.
then saute with other veggies and meats and add them to spaghetti sauce, soups, and taco fillings
What about Stuffed Bell peppers? Might not *hide* the flavor but you could eat around them :)
Besides using them in my Hamhock Navy Beans...that is the only other way I use them...because what? I hate them too! Hee-Hee!
Summer is a few months away, I would chop/slice them.and freeze'em. Id you have cookouts in the summer with other people grill'em with burgers or with taco meat and serve them to other people.
Try this, B.:

The jambalaya looks really good! The mirepoix is a great base for lots of different kinds of cooking, like soups, Italian cooking (soffritto) and won't taste like bell peppers. I don't like bell peppers either!
Dawn
we make black bean chili and it calls for bell pepper. we saute them w/ the onion before adding beans. that way they are soft but add lots of color to the chili.
I make a stuffed pepper soup that is spectacular. of course it is the left overs from the stuffed peppers. I would make if I was you.... a pot of chili and chop them up and throw them in. you could probably make a couple of pans of that and freeze some so that you can just pull out. or a second thought is to make some stuffed peppers and put away in the freezer for when you need to pull out a meal to take to someone ill. if you truely hate them then why not donate them to your local food pantry?
duhh so I should give you the recipe for above mentioned stuff right lol
stuffed peppers
1 lb hamburger browned and drained
1 T garlic powder
1 T onion powder
1 cup minute rice prepared
1 can stewed or diced tomatoes
mix all of the above together and stuff pepper bake on 350 til the peppers are crisp tender really yummy.
left overs can be combined with a chili mix and tomato juice to make a really good soup.
Chop them up real good and put them in sauce & soups. If you sauté them first and then add them, they will be less potent.
Do you pick up once a week with your co-op? I eat peppers and I couldn't eat four of them in a month. They would go bad before I could eat them all. You will probably need to freeze some. Chop them before freezing.
Otherwise, if you just approach the neighbors with a smile and a pepper, I bet they would understand you were offering them to them.
If you hate them why are you making something that includes them? Wouldn't it be easier to make something that doesn't call for them.
I have a few recipes that make them actually taste good. :)
Okay do you not like them raw because they have a completely different flavor cooked. I love cooked bell peppers but raw, yuck!
I know what ya mean about not wanting to waste food. If it were me I would make stuffed bellpeppers, that way you use them all up at once. Find a recipe where you boil the peppers before filling them (usually filled with ground beef and rice mixture). I came across one a while back and it had like a bbq kind of sauce on top (ketchup, brown sugar, worcestershire, vinegar), it came out good. If I had the recipe I'd post it but I didn't save it. Cooking them long enough usually takes out the bitter flavor with the green ones. I love the red and orange ones though!
Well... I'm a supertaster... so to me, nothing hides them. But here are a few things pepper-haters happily eat (and 2nds and 3rds) when I make them at my house:
Philly Cheesesteak Blasphemy:
- Sautee thin sliced green bell peppers and yellow onions. 1 pepper to 1 large onion. You end up with double the onions to pepper slices ration. Sautee till carmelized (aka clear then brown then bits of char).
- On a hoagie/baguette/etc layer hot steak/roastbeef/etc., peppers & onions, and several slices of swiss cheese. Lay sammies openface under a broiler and heat till swiss is all melty and goey. Close.
- If you like... dip in au jus
((Brotherly Love Mamas... I TOLD you it was blasphemy... substitute cheeze whiz if you like))
Cajun Just About Anything:
- Gumbo
- Jambalaya
- Po Boys
- Whatever.
Green peppers are part of the holy trinity. Chopped peppers, onions, celery.
Fajitas
____________
Option 4:
DON'T eat them.
Slice with onions. Sautee them caramelized. Cool. Place in freezer bag w/ no air. Come summer and bbq'ing with others, defrost and serve for people to put on their dogs, burgers, etc.
Oh, I LOVE green bell peppers! Don't know what color you got, but here are a few ideas.
First, you can do this with chicken or a good tender steak. I saute the meat in a pan (I used to do in on a George Foreman when I was younger and on my own) with a little lemon pepper...when the meat's about a minute away from done (or longer if you want your veggies more tender) I add chopped onion, tomato, and bell pepper...all diced. I just lightly stir fry the veggies with the juice from the meat, and pour it all back over and serve. YUM. But that's coming from a place of liking bell peppers...maybe it'd work for you, maybe not.
We also use them in an endless variety of stir-fries...lean pork chops, chicken, hamburger, whatever we've got...baby corn, broccoli, bell peppers, etc...brown rice...and whatever sauce we make from scratch. I like them that way, too.
I live in Rockwall, and I would love to have them.
Beth😄
I hate them too, but here is what I do it I have one. Chop it up, freeze it, then use it in soups or chili or spaghetti sauce. The flavor is not so intense, especially when you use it in chili or in spaghetti sauce. :-)
Give them to someone out of your neighborhood.
Don't you have other friends that might want them?
People from church..
Friends on facebook?
I do not bell peppers because they upset my stomach..
