OMG, I LOVE homemade apple sauce!
I had no idea you can make it in a crockpot! YUMMMMMY!
I need a recipe to make applesauce in a crockpot for my preschool class. (10 kids)
Must I peel the apples?
ALSO, preschool is 5 hours long. Will it cook in this amount of time? Can I do anything to lessen the time needed to cook (maybe soaking the apples the night before?)
Any other tips to make this go smoothly in a classroom would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Here's what I did: Peel and slice 10 apples the night before and place in bowl of water to soak overnight. I added lemon juice to keep apples from browning. Once at school, I put apples in crockpot to cook 4 hrs on high. While cooking, add 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water, sprinkle cinnamon, and 5 red hot candies. Mash up the apples and stir occasionally as it cooks. It tasted wonderful!!

We just did this in my daughters class and came home and made it. VERY yummy. I cut up 6 apples in cube sizes pieces and then put them as in no additives of water or anything for 4 hours my crockpot heats quick and was ready in 3. They get soft enough to mash with potatoe masher at the end and then we added 1/4 cup white sugar and 1/4 cup of cinnamon and they LOVED it. Quick and easy for yummy tummies. They can have skin on or off. I had mine off. For 10 kids you may want to do 10 apples ;) I used a 6 quart crockpot! Have fun!!!
I have not made this myself but know others who have done it in the crockpot. If you go online, there are some great recipes for this. I just went to look because it sounds like a great idea and my son loves applesauce. Here is one of many that I found.....

Let us know how it turns out and good luck..
Would have never imagined making homemade applesauce in the crock pot. I'm so excited to try this. Not only does it sound yummy but I can imagine the way my home will smell during cooking. Thank you for sharing :)
I used to do this with my first graders all the time. I peeled and cut the apples before school. (I have the pampered chef peeler and corer, so it is super simple) I don't know if it is necessary. Then with the kids in the room we put the apples into the crockpot, added brown sugar (I had lemon juice on the apples to prevent browning) and it was always ready in a few hours. Make sure to do it first thing and you should be fine, the only reason I peeled them is because as you mash them the peel will come off but not mash, so there will be little chunks of peel in the sauce. It will be chunky so prepare the kids in advance so they know not to expect Motts.
I also make it every Thanksgiving because it makes the house smell amazing! I just cook it on low so that it will cook all day instead of a few hours. :)
