I pay $20 an hour for my cleaning ladies. I think it is a fair price for good work.

Question: what is the market price for home cleaning service? we use a woman who does a reasonably good job but charges $20 an hour. she works on two of our three floors (we don't use the basement very often). she usually takes about 4 hours. while we're generally happy with her work, it still seems a bit rich to me.

that is what we pay too and we have a similar situation. 3 floors. rarely use the basement level. when our woman comes to clean she washes the floors, vacuums, starts laundry, makes the beds, and cleans the bathrooms/showers. Sometimes she does windows but she does not do dishes or cleans out the refrigerator.
That sounds very reasonable. I pay each time she comes, but it works out to between $20-$30/hr.
I just hired a cleaning service for 60$ to do 2 bedrooms 1 bath a large kitchen living room and dining room.
A good cleaning lady will charger their rate and work until the house is clean - sometimes more hours and sometimes less hours. Does she do laundry? Change the beds? If you think you're paying too much you should ask her to include some additional work she's not taking care of or find someone else. Our lady makes between 17 and 20 an hour depending on the day - she's amazing and I think she's worth the money. Good luck!
