Really Strange Question

Hi ladies!

So I'm a mom to a lively 2 year old girl. I breast fed her for 6 months, 1-1/2 years ago!! When she cries, I still have this "let down" feeling in my breasts, why is that? I know I've heard plenty of women talk about this before, there isn't any milk, but it's still this wild sensation. Just wondering if anyone knew any specifics about this! Super strange? Not sure! Is it normal? Probably! :) all in my head?

What can I do next?

I adopted a baby when my older, biological child was 10. When she cried I felt the same thing. I called a friend of mine who is a lactation specialist and she said it was totally normal, and happens quite often. Weird, I agree.

Well, I haven't nursed a baby in 15 years and I STILL feel that twinge and ache in my breasts when I hear a baby cry or even see a gorgeous shiny new little package, sigh. And these are other people's babies.

Course, I haven't SAID so cuz I don't want to creep anybody out.

So if you're Super Strange, than I'm Super DUPER Strange!

Sara, I couldn't explain the science behind it, but it happened to me for years after I stopped breastfeeding. Even if I was near someone ELSE'S baby that was crying. My youngest is now 4 1/2 years and it hasn't happened in quite some time but I also have not been around a crying baby for a really long time.
Ya know what else is funny, though, is if someone's baby is crying at the grocery store or church or something, I will notice I sway, like I am jostling a crying baby! I have heard other women do this, too. It is so funny how our bodies automatically react to the sound, sight or smell of a baby.

Yep, I haven't had it for a while, but I used to have it all the time. I have no idea why. I don't know if it is a mental thing, your brain causing the sensation, or a physical thing.

Just know you are not alone and are not crazy! I thought I was for a long time!

IT NEVER GOES AWAY!

I don't know why, but it's exactly the same for me. It's not all in your head! It's real - and normal!

I had this happen once last year - my son was 4.5 at the time. It wasn't major, but definitely there. Very funky!

May be handy if you get stuck in the desert or something :)

I don't know the answer to your question about your breasts specifically, but I'll offer this. After I had my second baby, any time I felt scared, or jolted by anything (like slamming on the brakes while driving), things like this, I get an odd sensation in my hands, kind of like electrical shocks. It was explained to me that sometimes shocks to the system (like childbirth), can change our nervous systems. I wonder if perhaps something similar is going on with you, but not your hands.

At least you don't leak milk - THAT would be very inconvenient!

My mom hasn't nursed an infant since my youngest brother was 9 months old (he's almost 24 now) and she still gets it sometimes. In fact, after I had my oldest daughter, I left her with my mom for 2 weeks while I visited my husband in Korea and she said her breasts started to get bigger! Lol.
