I had this same problem with my daughter when she was 1 1/2. I took her to an ENT and they did a CATSCAN of her sinuses and found out that they were not draining due to her adnoids being in the way. We ended up having her adnoids removed and that was the end of her continuous sinus infections.

Go to the ENT.. with sinus infections things can get tricky and it's so much better to be safe than end up with pneumonia and a big problem. Good luck and here's hoping it's just a teensy cold or something

My pediatrician always schedules a follow-up appointment after my kids finish a round of antibiotics to make sure the infection has cleared.

I say continue the nasal rinse, drink plenty of fluids and see how he is Monday. If no better than a follow up at the doctor would be in order.

I am such a firm believer in building immunities through nutrition and vitamin supplements. I would recommend this to prevent so many colds. I would also wonder whether there is an allergy going on. I live in Dallas too and when the weather changes suddenly like it did today that can kick up the allergies. Building immunities can help stave off allergies too.

Have you switched to non-toxic cleaners in your home. Cleaners can cause allergies as well.

Contact me P., if you are interested. I have my own Shaklee business and I would be happy to make some recommendations for cleaners, vitamins and nutritious shakes.

we went through this last year with ear infections - 3 in 7 weeks. i believe that it was the same one just recurring, but don't think it makes a difference in how they treat it. since he just had one, i would take him back in. most likely it never went away. make sure he eats before he takes the antibiotics b/c the stronger they give him (and they'll up it when he goes back, or they did my son), the harsher they are. my son was more miserable from the meds then the ear infection. hope he feels better soon :(

could still be the infection, but it could also be the weather here. if you have taken him out a lot the last few days it could be allergy related with the way the temps were and the windy days. see how it is on monday and then probably contact the ent. also try a humidifier.

There's a good chance that the sinus infection never fully went away. Schedule an appointment with the ENT.

It's hard to say without knowing your son's age. Augmentin only cures the bacterial infection. Your child may have congestion becuase of allergy or viral infection. If it is pretty sure according to the pediatrician that this is sinusitis, then a visit to the ENT will be appropriate. You should consult the peditrician who prescribed augmentin.

Let the pediatrician evaluate. The sinus congestion may not be bacterial sinusitis. It could be allergy symptoms or anything else. So he needs clinical examination. If needed, usually the pediatrician will refer to ENT.

Did you ever go for a follow-up appointment to see if the infection actually went away? That is the best way to see if the infection is completely gone or not. Good luck.

My 3 y/o son has gone through the same thing. Finally, we found a wonderful chiropractor that adjusted him and taught me how to perform facial massage and "vibration" to help his sinuses drain. His congestion was relieved by 50% by the next day and less than one week later completely gone. All for the tune of about $20. And NO SIDE EFFECTS! We used augmentin ONCE and never again. I wish you well in finding a solution...if you would like the contact info to our chiropractor just let me know.

Give him some Tylenol for any discomfort. If its not draining, then its still an issue. You should never fret about returning to the ENT. They should have scheduled a 3 week followup any way to make sure that the first infection had been cured.

I'd at least call the nurse line and get their opinion.

my son and I both had sinus infections 2 weeks ago. He also had the beginnings of an ear infection. Doc put us both on Amoxicillin for 10 days. A couple of days later, my son developed pink eye so I called the doctor. Went in and this time he had double ear infections. We are now on the Augmentin for another 10 days.. geesh! I'm glad we went back in because he wasn't really complaining about his ears hurting. I say take your son back in and get checked out again. Can't hurt and then that way you will know for sure if its infection or if it is just a viral thing. Sick kids are no fun!

Hi P.,
I am sorry your little one is going through this, last time I had one of these I was told that with the antibiotics one should also get a descongestant otherwise your sinuses do not drain and they get plug and cause another infection. I say, like another mom suggested, take your baby to the ENT, sinuses are not fun to have they are painful. Have a humidifier to help the baby breathe. I hope your son gets better soon.

It could either have never gone away, or he could just have allergies. It is that time of year, and I know TONS of little ones who are suffering from allergies right now. A sinus infection means yellow/green stuff coming out, so if anything that comes out is clear, you know it isn't that. I suffer from allergies, and to be honest, that's exactly what it sounds like. Good luck!
