Hello Smart Mommas,

I have heard and read many things about RLT (Raspberry Leaf Tea) and now I am a bit confused. Everything seems so contradicting. What I had originally thought was that RLT was and is helpful when TTC but now it seems that some say that if you drink it after ovulation that you can cause or bring on uterine contractions that can cause your little bean that may have stuck (if you were lucky enough to have conceived) to expel itself from these contractions. Its so hard to tell what is and isnt true because there is no real 'medical' studies and advice to back up what is written about this. Do any of you ladies have any advice from using RLT?

Thanks in advance and happy Monday

I've only been familiar with its use in late pregnancy, to tone and condition the uterus. With my last baby (12 years ago), my midwives had me start drinking a cup in the last trimester, and it gradually increased to 3 cups a day at the end. I also drank it at the end of my first pregnancy, 16 years ago. I've heard nothing about its usefulness when you are ttc.

I always used at the end of a pregnancy. It helps the uterus to contract more efficiently.

Everything I've read about it (Ina May Gaskin books primarily) suggests using it starting around week 38 up until pushing, with "doses" up to 5 cups a day. I started it drinking it around then, and though I don't think it was solely responsible for having my first child after 30 minutes of pushing and zero drugs... it couldn't have hurt!

I Haven't ever heard of using it for TTC. In fact, since it does bring on tone in the uterus, I would think you may run the risk of early miscarriage after implantation. Like Mindy, I was always told to take it at the end of pregnancy. With my first, I think I was drinking too much in my first trimester and actually had SEVERE round ligament cramps one day. I stopped drinking it until later.
