A full body rash warrants an immediate trip to the Ped.

My first two thoughts are (sadly) measles (sadly, because there are more and more measles outbreaks these days, since so many people aren't immunizing) and chickenpox... since you've ruled out baby acne. Hopefully, I'm wrong, and it's merely an allergy to say... laundry detergent.

The first thought that came to mind is baby acne. Our son was about 6 weeks old when he developed it. Our daughter never did.

Even if you are out of town, I'd still make a call to the pediatrician. They may recommend an appropriate dose of Benadryl or something similar if they suspect an allergic reaction. When we faced this with our son around 6 months, all we needed was a call and a 5 minute conversation with the pediatrician on the phone to resolve the issue.

This is common and caused by your pregnancy hormones leaving her body. It lasts for a couple of weeks, but often starts a little younger. Petrolium jelly can clog her pores and keep her skin from breathing, so it is not advisable to apply to the rash.

It's also possible that she had some sort of a mild virus (no big deal) and this is the end of that. By this time, the virus is gone, so no need to worry. Breast feeding is the best way to keep your baby safe from illness, so please don't consider stopping that!

If she has no other symptoms, don't worry about it. If she has a fever then call your pedi. long distance.

Congrats on the new baby!

It is possible that she has started reacting to something you are eating. My son had issues with my eating dairy and tomatoes both of which showed up around 6-8 weeks of age. I took dairy and tomatoes out of my diet and he was fine. If you can find what you are eating more of the days it gets worse you can try taking it out of your diet and see if that works for her.

It made me think of baby acne too. When you change the baby, take a soft cloth with warm water and wash her face, and anywhere the spots are. It is supposed to peak at about 7-8 weeks, and then it gets better. I would google baby acne, and see if you can find pictures. This should help you determine if that is all it is.

It's probably eczema. My younger son has eczema too. Try to use a mild cleanser like cetaphil or just plain water to wash her. We also have a water filter on the faucet that we used for his baths because we have hard water and it seemed like the water made it worse. Also try using lukewarm or cooler water to wash her.

If nothing has changed in your diet it's probaby not related to breastfeeding, unless her face is getting too warm against your skin, in which case you can try different nursing positions or putting a thin cloth between her face and your body to absorb the sweat. My son's eczema is worse on areas where there are folds such as the back of his knees, ankles and his baby fat rolls.

I use petroleum jelly regularly on my son's eczema, sometimes a few times a day. My pediatrician gave us DermaSmooth (Rx) which we use when it gets really bad. I know it looks bad but hopefully it will get better. She will probably outgrow it. Good luck. I hope it gets better.

My now 14 yearold had a rash covering his body.Even his palms and soles of his feet. If I remember correctly they were flat spots. I didn't even know he had blisters inside his mouth until I took him to the doctor. He was very fussy and didn'twant to eat. He was 1 yearold. He had hand foot infection.I don't about your baby but this what we went through. Maybe you should give your Dr. a call even though you are out of town. Good luck.

from my experience with my son who's now almost 2yrs old he had a rash like this but more bumps like hives well it was hives we later found out from the dr and i was breastfeeding some with supplimenting formula as well. we dismissed it as baby rash at first well it was all over and wasn't getting better and dr saw it at his checkup and was baffled then my husband said 'could it be he is allergic to soy or dairy?' he took soy formula. well she did run the test and we wound up sent on to the allergist and by 4mo or so of age he was diagnosed with egg and nut allergy. eek.. so yea just watch it. it could be dairy or any kind of food allergy she's getting from you thru the milk.

You said you are out of state - could she be getting hives from something environmental? I used to get hives from pine and mold.

Could it be Roseola?

I do not think it is the breastmilk although you may want to try and drink bottled water. We had a mom in our group whose son was having a reaction to something in her milk - turned out to be the local water supply! Too much chlorine!
