Wondering if anyone has had an experience with a rash around their belly button.
Over the last year, I had the rash for a few months and it went away. It is now back after about two months. At times, it really itches. Haven't changed anything. Not soap, laundry soap, or clothing (I do not have sensitivity to metal).

HI T.,

I had a weird rash for two years by my belly button, too. I tried all kinds of things. The best I could do was pine tar soap from the health food store. It got really bad when i moved to Puerto Rico from the humidity ( It had started after I went to Hawaii) In PR I went to the pharmacy and the pharmacist said it looked like a yeast infection and gave me monostat for it. The rash went away after 10 days. Sometimes I feel it start to flare up so I put some more monostat on it and it doesn't even end up becoming a rash again. Because it was a yeast I was careful to wash it with the pine tar soap and then pat it dry with toilet paper and not my towel, which may spread it...I know scratching it did spread it quickly. YOu can just use the over the counter monostat I used the one for athelete's foot.

Hi T., I would say look into a systemic yeast problem even if you have never had typical yeast infections. I have the same thing and I have been battling systemic candida for a few years now, the rashes come and go. Just look it up on the internet there are a host of symptoms and even a questionnaire to help you determine if you have it. If you do... the absolute Best product I have found (and I have tried all of them) is called ThreeLac. You can buy it on Ebay.

T.,
My daughter gets one when she wears a belt. We found out she is allergic to the nickle in the belt buckle. If your ears puff up when you wear earings also, there is a sensitivity to the metal. Also, Cookie lee makes a liquid that you coat the earings or whatever in, and then you can wear them.

Hi T., I had the same recurring rash in my teens. I used Neosporin and it cleared it up short term. I finally went to the doctor and he diagnosed it as a staff infection and gave me some cream that cleared it up for good. I also found that making sure I dried inside of my belly button helped. Hope this helps. D.

Go to the Dr.
It sounds like eczema - but you never know until you get it properly diagnosed.

It is probably yeast. You may have candidiasis (an overgrowth of bad yeast in your body). I HAD IT. You can go to www.bodyecologydiet.com and take the candida questinaire to check for symptoms. MANY women have this. It is very serious and is compromising your immune system. Your Dr. may just give you foot fungus cream to apply on the spots (mine did) by the yeast is INSIDE your body and the cream will only treat the outside. READ READ READ about candida. I HIGHLY recommend the book, from the website, The Body Ecology Diet, to HEAL your immune system.

FYI...I found this book in January and learned so much. I have even loss nearly 30 lbs!!!!

you could have developed a sensitivity to ingredients such as petrochemicals. It can happen at any times. You might want to use something like olive oil and rub it into your belly or if that is too smelly for you, jojoba oil or almond oil, or another natural oil ( not mineral oil!) and see if it helps. Stay away from products that have petrochemicals in them, you need to buy your soaps and body lotions in health food stores or stores like whole foods. There are also some homeopathic remedies that can help, some that help for rashes. Ask in the health food stores or if you are interested, or see a homeopath. There are creams that can help too, Calendula is great, and Viola Cream ( you can find one made by Jurlique, sold at Pharmaca).
Good luck

Hi T.! I get that same thing with a certain pair of jeans where the button touches my belly button. I found out I'm allergic to Sterling Silver. So whatever the button is made out of is causing the allergic action. Hope that helps!

The only time I've ever had that has been from the metal button on jeans. I know you said that you're not sensitive to metal but just in case - have you purchased a new pair of pants lately that you've been wearing? You can sometimes get away with putting clear nailpolish over the back of the buttton. Otherwise, I have no idea. I hope you figure it out.

What a terrible place to have a rash - just because there are always clothes on that area! I think that sometimes we can become sensitive to things we were previously sensitive to.
If you are looking for something to help with the extreme itching, my friend Mary swears by Arbonne's Baby Care Diaper Cream for every rash known to man... any rash appears on anyone in their family, she uses that! Good luck

Do you wear belts? I get allergic reactions to the metal part of the buckle if I wear it for too many consecutive days and it happens to touch my skin.

Hi T.,
I haven't had a rash but have you thought that maybe you have Eczema? That it really itchy and comes and goes depending on stress and sometimes what foods you eat. I treat my son with Cetapil cream and it cures the rash. Good luck!

Hard to say without seeing it, but it could be eczema or simply a build-up of dead skin cells. The little critters that live on your skin might be working overtime and their waste, therefore, causing an irritative reaction. Two products I make could help: soft scrub, a lotion and glycerin cleansing base with superfine pumice and essential oils to quickly exfoliate and hydrate skin (I use it on hands and face regularly - helps minimize lines!) and my rash relief, which can help calm many different skin conditions. Please let me know if you'd like to know more.

If you get regular yeast infections, you may want to consider doing an intestinal cleanse and removing all forms of sugar from your diet for a period of 9 weeks. This could indicate an overgrowth of candida which many people have and it causes all kinds of things including ear/sinus infections, psoriasis, ecxema, yeast infections, sugar cravings, etc. The sugar craving is not really who a person is, it is the little yeasties called candida that use sugar for their food and since they are part of your system, they yell loudly for sugar and you then think it's you.

If it is just a skin irritation, know that your skin is the largest eliminating organ on your body. If it's trying to get rid of something, then it is a good thing. Wear loose fitting clothes and if you can get your hands on therapeutic grade Rosewood essential oil use that. (test it in a small unaffected area before putting it all over the irritated spot)

Hi T., it sounds like a yeast infection. Try foot cream, or yeast meds and baby powder to keep the area dry. You may also want to watch the amount of sugar in your diet. Sugar feeds the yeast infection and it's hard to control if you have been eating a lot of sweets. Try protein and veg's for a few days and you will feel a lot better. Hope it helps~~C.

Could be an allergic reaction. Try taking Benadryl. I have incredibly sensitive skin and get rashes all the time. Typically they are hives from an allergic reaction - including around my belly button. I use all "sensitive skin" products with no dyes or fragrance. I also have the washing machine set to two rinses. Have seen the dermatologist and the long and short of it is that my skin is just sensitive. Good luck.

My first thought was reaction to nickle buttons. One exposure could cause itching for days afterward -even without repeat exposure. My second thought was Yeast. (yeast will get BRIGHT RED)and is very itchy. My third thought was, maybe detergent that you are using on your clothes isn't coming out as well as it used to or your putting too much in the laundry? 4th thought: I've read online about belly buttons actually getting infected (inside where the feeding part of the tube meets the button.)
You can try tea tree oil- it is anti- yeast and anti- bacterial. It is safe and has a mild pain killer/numbing sense about it.

Sounds like it could be a yeast infection? Have you tried topically applying either a Monostat product or even plain Yogurt?

If you have an "inny" navel, warmer weather could be causing moisture buildup, which can lead to the growth of yeast and other fungi. You might also try swabbing the area with Hydrogen Peroxide three times a day for a week, and letting it dry before putting on clothing.

If it doesn't improve in a week, see your doctor and ask if Hydrocortizone cream might be appropriate.

You could be dealing with a pH imbalance internally, so taking acidophillus capsules may be beneficial, as well.

Hope that information helps!

Hi T.. My Mom had the same issue. The Dr thought she had ringworm. Have you tried a fungicide cream or hydrocortisone cream? If the rash doesn't go away I would go to the Dr. My Mom actually happened to have a rare skin disease. Good luck!
