My sister's daughter often gets a blistery rash in her private area. She is in pre-school . Does anyone have any suggestions . Sit baths have been tried but there has not been much improvement. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

Is she potty trained? She could be having a leak or not wiping well and then the wet pants are rubbing against her legs causing the rash.

Maby she's allergic to something she's eating, I know if my kids eat too much acidy food they get rashes like that. Any antibiotics lately? So many reasons it could be happening, my suggestion would be to get some acidophilus & have her take it internally as well as in the bath, not tons of water, like to the top of her bottom. I love this organic baby line called herba organics, I use the diaper creme on any rashes, it doesn't have harsh chemicals & other unnecessary additives, plus it smells like fresh lavender & I LOVE it! I hope it gets better soon!

The toilet paper that they use might be to harsh for her if she is potty trained. Try bringing toilet wipes for her.

is she in pull ups? if so she may be allergic to them. if she potty trained then she may not be wiping well or could be having a reaction to the detergent you use with her delicate skin in that area. what i do with my daughter (whos 3) when she rashes there is have her sit in an aveeno oatmeal bath. it calms her skin. then i put a and d with zinc on her at night and that does the trick.

When my son has that problem the only thing that has worked to help clear it up is to use corn starch on it and use wet paper towels instead of wetwipes. After a day or two of corn starch with every diaper change, the rash is gone. Good luck!

My daughter got similar and we always put anti fungals like lotrimin or such. The Dr gave us prescription anti fungals but the OTC brand worked better. Keep the area clean and dry and smear the medicine on every night.

Maybe your sister's daughter is allergic to scented hand and bath soap and laundry detergent products? She might consider switching to unscented soap products. Maybe she is drinking too much juice too. Try taking away the juice and give her water instead. I'm assuming your sister has already taken her daughter to a doctor for his/her opinion. I think the soap I've had good results with is Cetaphil (something like that). The scent is very delicate.

Do they use bubble bath? When my kids bathe, I don't use any soap of any kind and let them splash around in the bath. After they are done playing, we use shampoo and soap and rinse them off right after. with the shower. You might try putting some baking soda in the bathwater and not using soap at all for a few days. They get pretty clean with just water.

I would not put a child in any kind of warm water with a rash it has a tendency to spread. Keeping it dry and clean is the answer. Of course seeing a doctor might be in order.

She may be having yeast issues, allergic reactions to something either that is touching her (laundry soap, softeners, bath products) or that she is ingesting. Not good and not comfortable for her. I switched to Sensaria Natural Bodycare products because of my daughter's reactions to everything else that we had been using. Also, try removing something from her diet for two weeks and then reintroduce it. The first one to try would be all dairy and soy. The second one all sugars, etc...

Sensaria has several products to help sooth and calm skin. For this I would be using the body wash (no sodium laurel sulfates or dyes in it to start with), and spritzing with the Freshening Mist, then any of the hand/body lotions or the Nourishing Moisturizer (this one has been GREAT for eczema and psoriasis).

You need to have a doctor in on this if it continues.

I give a 15% discount on the Sensaria products to anyone that is getting them for the first time and there is a one-year guarantee on everything.

My daughter had the exact same thing at that age. Actually it started from about 8months old. I suspected a food allergy since we tried different diaper brands and finally started using the chlorine free ones and chlorine free wipes which helped a lot. We also have a food allergy history in my family. We got her tested at Childrens Hospital when she turned 2. Turns out she is allergic to wheat, peanuts, walnuts, cashews, strawberries, and pineapple. She is also technically allergic to soy and eggs, but her body has figured out a way to tolerate them so she can still eat them. But once we removed wheat from her diet, those awful blistery red rashes down there disappeared and have never returned. I felt so bad for my daughter because when she had those rashes it would burn whenever she peed :(. Thankfully we figured out the cause was wheat. And the allergy back scratch test didn't hurt her at all. It could also be a yeast infection...but....I would check out the allergies first. Most girls that age don't have issues with yeast unless they are eating an unbalanced diet or are on antibiotics a lot. It does happen, so it should be ruled out and the test is simple for it...but I would guess it's something that she is allergic to. Either something touching her in the area or something she is ingesting.

Once we got my daughter tested, life has been much easier since we know what to avoid. And she no longer cries because of that rash :).

try bleaching her underwear after a while no matter how good you wash the underwear Bacteria stays on it and is hard to get off and can cause rashes. bleach her underwear every 4 to 6 months just in cause. hope that helps you

Dear S.,

First clean the private area with salt water and then with cold water, pat dry, try to keep the area dry but do not use powder. this will surely help.

A few drops of lavender in her bath or in an oil base (applied after) may do the trick. It is antibacterial, anti-viral & anti-fungal. Always try on self first.
