My 2-year-old has a small rash on her leg which runs right along her diaper line. At first I assumed it was just irritated from the diaper, but it doesn't seem to be going away. I've tried using regular diaper ointment and baby powder, but that doesn't help. I was told by one mother that it could be a yeast infection and that her doctor told her to use athlete's foot ointment on it. I have not tried that yet, but will get some of that today and try that. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Could her diapers be too tight? I would definatly see a doctor before using athlete's foot ointment near my daughter's girly bits.
I'd wash the area, dry it and slather her with either Vaseline or A&D Ointment. Try to let her go diaperless (to get air to it and stay dry) for awhile if you can... I'd stay away from the baby powder...I've always found that compounds the issue.
I've used the athlete's foot ointment before and it's worked for any kind of fungal...by BFF even used it when she had mastitis and it worked!
Have you changed laundry soap, regular soap, or fabric softener anytime lately? That's usually the culprit in our house. Move to a more sensitive skin version (free and clear or soap free washes in the bath...my daughter has to use Cetaphil body wash) and we never use fabric softner.
My daughter had a yeast infection. The best thing I did for her is cloth diapers for most of the time and no diapers some of the time. Also lots of water to clear up the rash. My doctor explained that the urine was too harsh for their skin. Good luck.
What does the rash look like?
My daughter actually has a yeast rash now. It's very red and bumpy. Call your doctor and explain the rash, and they'll probably just call a prescription into your pharmacy for her. I'd ask before using anything else on the rash like athletes foot cream, etc. The yeast can and will come back if it's not treated properly.

Take her to the doctor. You cannot diagnose her yourself. If it is a yeast infection it should be treated.
My Grandson experienced the same rash and it was cleared up with lamisil.

My daughter had/has the exact same thing. My ped. recommended using Lotrimin on it. It worked pretty quickly and it took the itchiness away. Hope this helps.
Good Morning KS.Zane 2 gets a rash like that alot plus huge pustules on his body They have finally stopped coming up. Thank you Lord.
What we use was suggested by their nurse. Get some A & D ointment, put a about a thumb sized glob in a coverable container add to that about 1 T. of Maalox, mix it up good (takes a bit of doing) then put this on the rash. His rash clears up quickly even on the diaper line.
You will see improvement soon.

if it's a yeast infection you can use vagisil cream on it. that is what my dr friend used because it is cheaper than the nystatin prescription and they have to pay full price for meds at the pharmacy. You could also try cortaid if it's a rash from the diaper irritating the leg.
Hi! I would check with the Dr. but I thought I'd share my daughter's diaper issue. She gets irritation induced eczema... she only gets it along the edges of her diaper on her legs and sometimes on her lower back. It looks red and feels slightly leathery to the touch and it definately itches her; she scratches it the second I take her diaper off. Buttpaste, which I love, clears up her normal diaper rash wonderfully but did nothing for the rash on the edges of her diaper/legs. Her Dr. gave me a very mild steroid cream and an antifungus cream (both prescription) and I use it on her when it flares up, and it usually fades away after a few days. I'm hoping once she's potty trained/diaper free she won't have this issue anymore! Good luck
K S, If the athletes foot cream doesn't work try: equal parts Butt Paste, Lotrimine (athletes foot cream), antibiotic ointment and hydrocortizone cream. This mixture is Pediatrician recommended for just about any rash, it works like you wouldn't believe!!!

Hello, all i can say is the best stuff ever is Dr. Smiths Diaper Ointment. but you can only get it at walgreens and it is kinda pricey- about 10 bucks for a little jar or like 14 for a tube- but it is so worth it, that is all i use now. apply that like 3 times a day and should by the next day clear up. I would try that before antifungal, just because diaper ointment is made for that kind of rash. but that is just my thinking. anyway, i hope it gets better!
