My husband got a little miffed about this. He said that its bad for them. I dont think so and it was just because there regular snacks and treats were gone, due to me being with out a vehicle till the transmission is fixed. We dont have much in the house in fact... so anyway its not bad is it ?<biting nails and worrying>

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

generally their snacks are fruit, crackers. they are 4 -2- and 1. So I cut up 3 bars into pieces and let them snack. They are my bars. So he was saying they dont need all that protein, but then he is a health food fanatic. I had three bars that I cut up into three pieces each, and let them grab what they wanted.
LOL I didnt find it a big deal either, hence the question. I need ammo to fling at dad

Pish posh! There are going to be lots of times, when they will end up eating way worse things than a cereal bar.

Is he going to forbid them to eat cake ice cream and punch at Birthday parties.. A Christmas cookie.. a chocolate covered strawberry? As long as 90% of their intake is wholesome, I do not think there is a problem.

I'm with Victoria, it's really not that much protein and protein is good for kids. I hope he doesn't usually second guess you like that. I say if he doesn't like it, then he should have gone shopping for you since you couldn't.

No, it's not bad. Come on - it's not like you fed them Butterfingers and Smarties.

Tell your husband to pound sand. You rocked it mama!!

Nah. I give my kids "candy bars" (aka protien bars) when we leave the gym on saturdays as a treat.
They are high in protien, good nutrients - like a vitamin - and taste yummy.
The one side effect I don't like is there is so much protien in some it keeps my kids saiated (full) and they don't want to eat lunch until 3 pm Ah, it's a saturday - they'll live:)

Of course not. I don't understand why that bothers your husband. He needs to mellow out.

Why are you biting your nails and worrying? Don't worry! Be happy! I gotta ask - does your husband often get miffed with what you do for your kids? Sounds to me like his is trying to micromanage you or something. Don't fall for it. You are a good mama - don't let him make you feel otherwise!

There's nothing wrong with special K - it's a ton better than eating cocoa puffs or Captain Crunch that kids galore get at breakfast time! For heavens sake!

Okay, well, I'd only be miffed if it were my Luna bars b/c those are expensive!

Really, how is it worse for them than a regular treat? It's most likely healthier, with just as much sugar, maybe even less sugar. Obviously, if your treats are like grapes, carrots or apples or homemade granola they will be more sugary, but the regular kid snack, like fruit snacks, cookies, jello cups, cheese cracker handisnacks or whatever... no I wouldn't worry about it, way healthier than those.

EDITED TO ADD:
The protein, especially with the bar cut in half isn't going harm them in any way. They got between 2g and 5g anyways depending on the flavor of the bar.. that's less than a cup of peanut butter, or less than one egg, which is about 6g of protein. Tell your health food nut husband to read labels.

How old are your kids? If they're 2.5 or older I think it's fine! Sure it's processed food and blah, blah blah, but it wouldn't endanger or sicken them. I wouldn't worry at all!

If you were "pushing" high protein food at them constantly every day... then yeah.. I could see his point. But cutting up 2 bars and letting the three of them have a few bites? Puh-leeeeeeeezzze! There isn't THAT much protein in those things anyway! Geez.
They're fine! My son (who is substantially older, however) LOVES those. I used to bring one in the car to give him when I picked him up from school (middle school)... because he was starved and a growing pre-teen.
Your kids are much younger, so it is probably not appropriate every day as their "regular" snack.... but when the cupboard is bare, it isn't going to hurt them this once (or once again next week). No worries! Tell him not to get his panties in a wad.

ETA: If what you gave them was the protein meal bar, they have about 10 grams of protein each. 2 bars would be 20, total. Between three kids, that's about 7 - 8 grams of protein each. About the same as an extra large egg. Does he throw fits when you feed your kids eggs?

I would rather give my kid protien bars instead of crackers. crackers turn to sugar and protien keeps them full longer and in my opinion is better for them. I give my kid protein bars alot. very seldom does he get crackers and fruit too much sugar. see how he responds to that :)

Oh good Lord, it was one time - it's not like you are doing this every day. It's one meal in a pinch and they will be fine. It was probably better than what a lot of kids get for breakfast every day in this country - and certainly better than no breakfast at all!

My kids just love their dad's Odwalla protein bars. They get to share one every now and then as a treat. I figure it's sugary like eating a cookie but it's got a ton of protein and vitamins...so hey! That's pretty good :) Maybe your husband just didn't want to share.

They give me gas, then loose stools so I would not let my child eat one, but I understand feeding them rather than letting them go hungry.
