Ramen Noodles

Is there such thing as Ramen Noodles without MSG in the seasoning packet? Or does anyone know of spices that taste very similar? We never eat just Ramen Noodles and we stay away from MSG, but there is one meal that I love and grew up eating that uses Ramen Noodles (or something similar) and the spice packet. It's a delicious meal with lots of veggies (today was onion, carrot, snow peas and cabbage) and the Ramen and packet...I would just feel better about making it healthier. I've done google searches for MSG free Ramen but haven't found anything.

Thanks!

So What Happened?

I thought I would add that we aren't eating them as Ramen Noodles, but making them into a dish called Mi Goreng (or Fried Noodles). It was something we ate in Indonesia and it's basically stir-fried veggies and while they are stir-frying the noodles are soaking in water. When the veggies are almost tender, then I add the noodles and the seasoning packet. It is so delicious and part of it comes from the great flavor of the packet...unfortunately! :-)

What I do is use just the noodles from the Ramen package and substitute 2 cubes of chicken bullion for 1 packet of Ramen flavoring. I use the Herb Ox brand and it has no msg. My 5 year old loves chicken soup made with the Ramen noodles and veggies.

Not sure but could you use an alternative seasoning? Maybe a chicken boullion , I'm sure somewhere like whole foods would sell a healthier alternative. When I cook these noodles I use only half the packet of seasoning as a way to lower the sodium.

Hi C.!

Based on some of the recent posts here lately...*was* gonna tell you to try breast milk...(joking...)

I use garlic...rosemary and thyme on noodles and veggies...or a spice mixture called 'herbs du provence'...very tasty!!

Best luck!

**EDIT:
Here in Hawaii, we have that dish too.
We call it "Stir Fried Noodles."
Or Fried Noodles.
Or Yakisoba (which is a Japanese dish).
All the same thing, basically.
It is very similar to the Mi Goreng.
There are recipes online for it.
Some places in Hawaii, carry the bottled sauce for it.
Maybe if you do a search on it, you can find it.

As an aside, this is a link for a local Hawaii store, which has various sauces. Not the Yakisoba one though.

And this is the link for Yakisoba fried noodle sauce and other Japanese seasonings:

I LOVE this dish.
I get cravings for it and get it from our neighborhood Ramen shop.
This dish.. is common in Hawaii, at many Ramen restaurants.

You need, to make real Ramen or Soba.
The kind that comes in a package, much like spaghetti does.
Or, it can also come as fresh noodles, in the chilled/refrigerated section of a grocery store or Asian store.

You boil it in water on the stove top. Like spaghetti.
Then for the sauce or broth, you can use the Japanese bottled "ramen" or Soba sauce concentrate, which you mix with water.

OR, you can make your own broth. And season it with Shoyu. Soy sauce. You can use chicken broth etc.

THIS is 'real' Japanese Ramen. Not the dried versions that comes in a heat up styrofoam cup with a packet of dried seasoning.

all the best,
Susan

I would think you could use a chicken or beef boullion cube.

I could never eat home cooked Ramen. It's just never going to be as good as the Ramen I got in Azabu-juban and Hiroo!!

But if you're just using the noodles, then add your own MSG free stock.

So hungry now...

LOL! I have not seen any without the packet of MSG-flavored seasoning. You can just use your own yummy spices. Check out "Spike" (seasoning). My cousin told me about it. (organic and I believe it has no salt) I think you'd get it in Whole Foods or an organic "whole foods" like store. Or, just use whatever you know tastes good without the MSG! :)
I'm going to try that veggie blend you mentioned. My mouth is watering!
