I've been considering (trying to push myself) trying to quit my Diet Dr. Pepper habit. I have terrible undereye circles that I waste tons of money on creams trying to get rid of. Perhaps this will help me with both problems!!

Ok, it's been about a month with no diet soda. There's been no drastic change with my weight or how I feel. However, the only thing I have noticed is the dark circles under my eyes are about 50 percent lighter. I don't know if it's from drinking more water or some kind of lessening of allergies. I don't really have any allergy symptoms going on right now, either before or after quitting.
So what do you think?

I didn't lose weight after not drinking diet sodas. But I was undergoing testing for MS and the doctor wasn't sure -- some tests indicated I probably had it, but not all -- and I had an abnormal spinal tap, normal vision tests, abnormal cat scan, questionable eeg, normal ekg, a whole slew -- probably 7 tests in all. Every one of my symptoms went away after I stopped consuming artificial sweeteners. And now, even if I accidentally drink something with it in or chew a stick of gum, the symptoms come right back. Aspartame is poison, if you ask me, and I'm shocked how many people drink multiple cans of it per day (myself, at one time, included).
For me, it's now water and plain green tea, all the way.
ETA: It was only after discovering this link between my neurological symptoms and aspartame that I started to research it on line, and it's not an uncommon problem.
Nice work! Keep it going! Interesting about the dark circles. My best guess would be that your body is flushing toxin through your system more efficiently now.
Maybe without realizing it, you are actually resting better.
I am very anti-diet soda. I know people who drink it all day, every day, an no offense to anyone, but almost all of them are overweight or obese. Diet soda isn't good for you, and drinking it doesn't mean you can eat a whole pizza by yourself because you saved calories on the soda.
I do treat myelf to a regular soda from time to time. Dr. Pepper is my favorite. However, what I like even more than that is plain soda water. Sometimes I'll squeeze some lemon or lime juice in, but I like it plain. It satisfies my desire for the fizzies. It has zero calories and you can get a 2-litre bottle of it for under a dollar. My kids, when they were little, loved "bubble water" too.
If you get a craving for something carbonated, give it a try.
Keep up the good work!
i think after a month DO NOT GO BACK!! diet soda is toxic and it doesn't matter how you "feel" or "look" - your body is so much better off without that stuff in it! GREAT JOB!!!
if you are craving a caffeine kick i do allow myself one Crystal Light + Energy sometimes. they're great. not as good as regular water, but MUCH better than soda.
good luck, you can do it!!!
I think you are doing great! Good job cutting out the diet soda.
yes I think its very possible. Are you also getting less caffeine in the process? That may have something to do with the way your carrying water, which effects eye puffiness. You know your body better than anyone. When I made a dietary change, i also did not experience what I thought or hoped I would, but experience other things. When I picked up fruit shakes for breakfast I did not loose weight, nor did my skin begin to glow, but suddenly restaurant food tasted too salty to me and I stopped getting sick with colds and flu.
Don't go back! Diet soda is horrible for you. I love fountain regular coca cola and allow myself a small serving like once a year. Yeah that's once a year. Artificial sweeteners and chemicals cause cancer.
Maybe you are sleeping more peacefully because of the drop in caffeine. And because you are getting your hydration elsewhere--maybe water--you are reaping the beauty rewards.
Perhaps you should offer a study in the effects of diet soda on dark circles! Betchya lots of women would reconsider for vanity purposes alone!
I know when I was "on" diet soda," I would have a very adverse reaction. Sometimes I would shake to the point of needing natural sugar.
I think your body is still detoxing and before you begin to lose weight, sometimes it takes the body a while to get back on track.. but keep up the good work..
even if you don't feel differently, your body knows the difference. consider this... the Phosphoric acid in soda leaches the calcium out of your bones and of course, that isn't good... so if anything.. your bones are thanking you.... keep drinking that water.. it will continue to aid the cleansing process..
a pat on the back to you for sticking with the no soda program!! way to go!
Congratulations! That is a huge step! I was a fan of regular coca-cola and pretty much had one every day. I stopped cold turkey a year and a half ago and will never go back. The cravings DO disappear! And while I have not lost weight because of it, I do think that it has helped to not gain weight so easily. There is absolutely nothing good for you about diet soda. Keeping it out of your body is the best thing you can do for yourself, regardless of the immediate effects you were hoping to see. Keep up the good work!
Great Job! I quit drinking diet drinks with aspartame. My depression, tingling arms and legs all went away. I challenge you to google aspartame. You might be surprised at all the symptoms it causes. Its a huge list. I now put Stevia in my tea. Its made from a bark of a tree and does not cause blood sugar spikes or lows.
Great job! It's been 4 years now since I quit drinking diet pop or eating anything with Aspartame/artificial sugars in it. I feel so much better--all the muscle pain and the tingling in the hands and feet has gone away! And much of the mental fog has lifted.
So I decided to get even better with my diet; I quit drinking regular pop in March 2012. Since then, I've "backslided" 3x with a Mt Dew. You know what? Pop just doesn't appeal to me whatsoever. I would much rather have ice water or unsweetened ice tea.
Give yourself more time. A month is just the beginning of your body detoxing itself. You need more time to pass before you will really notice much of a difference. And drinking more water is definitely a bonus!
